The present good weather spell continued as a large attendance converged at Watergrasshill for the Keith O’Callaghan Memorial Draghunt meeting.

The big race honours went to the Damien Wade trained Slievemish Queen of Clogheen who produced a riveting finish to cross the tape a very impressive winner.

Credit to the family of the late Keith they put huge effort into ensuring that everything goes off without a hitch and once again trainers and their hounds were treated to a good open clean course.

Reports from the various vantage points suggested the hounds were travelling at pace with the course shortened in light of the warm conditions.

When the hounds came into view the winner looked to be control and when the call went up, she spreadeagled her opponents to win from the reigning champion Sean T trained by John and Sean O’Sullivan of Griffin United.

Fellow Griffin United trainer Frank Allen has an ever- improving hound as Stargaze ran another cracker to snatch third ticket.

After the draghunt the winning trainer paid tribute to his brave hound.

“She might be small in size, but Slievemish Duchess has the heart of a lion and to win a draghunt of this magnitude in memory of a true gentleman is very satisfying,” said Damien.

In the Senior maiden draghunt Lewis Lass got back to winning ways for Shanakiel harriers trainer Mary Barrett when crossing the tape ahead of Knock’s Mac of Griffin United from Ger McCarthy’s kennel.

Mayfield trainer Denise Rall will be pleased with the performance of Magic’s Pride who snatched third ticket ahead of Casey Jack, So far so Good and Pixie’s Mexican Dream.

Another devastating turn of foot from Puppy championship leader Mossy’s Diamond of Mayfield saw her land another win, this time getting the better of Slievemish Queen trained by Damien Wade of Clogheen.

In good open terrain the Denis Dowling Mayfield trained Anyone on the Phone snatched third ticket with Putting on the Style, Charlotte’s Lass and Blue Lilly concluding the placed hounds.

After the draghunt winning trainer Kyle McCarthy spoke of his delight in winning another in his quest for championship honours.

“There is little doubt Mossy’s Diamond is a quality hound when getting a chance to win and we are very much enjoying the season as she gives her all in every draghunt,” said Kyle.

In the Puppy maiden the dominance of the Gerry Murphy kennel continued when Naoi’s Girl ran out an impressive winner crossing the tape ahead of Gypsy Rock of Northern Hunt and the aptly named DNA Diva of Northern Hunt.

The winning connections were pleased to get another win under their belt in this grade.

“We are having a good run with our hounds in recent weeks and Naoi’s Girl is a progressive genuine hound that will get better as the season matures,” said Murphy.
