Passage beat Douglas in the Seandún Junior A Hurling Championship

Passage opened their account in the AOS Security Seandún Junior A Hurling Championship, with a narrow in over Douglas, before a sizeable attendance, in blustery conditions at Ballinlough on Monday.
This result leaves Passage second in the table behind leaders Glen Rovers on scoring differences.
This closely contested game went down to the wire as both sides' defences held firm to prevent further goals.
Passage held on to win by two points at the finish, despite losing their top scorer Niall McCarthy to a straight red card, eight minutes from time.
Playing against the elements for the opening half, Passage made the better start as Niall McCarthy opened the scoring with a pointed free, within a minute of the throw-in.
Passage continued to have Douglas pinned back as Thomas O’Neill slotted over two unanswered points.
Sean Coughlan also added a point, to give Passage a four-point lead.
Douglas began to get to grips with the game as Ian Lucey, Diarmuid Coleman and Chris O’Keeffe each slotted over points from play.
Fionnán Barry also converted a free, to level matters at four points apiece.
Passage had Douglas back on the defensive as Sean Coughlan put Passage back in the lead with his second point from play.
Passage doubled their advantage in the 16th minute as Sean Coughlan set up Callum Griffin for the game’s opening goal.
Douglas responded with O’Keeffe’s second point from play. This was followed by Barry’s second pointed free.
Persistent fouling was to prove costly for Doulgas as Niall McCarthy slotted over two pointed frees for Passage.
Douglas responded with a point by former Cork Senior hurler Stephen Moylan and Barry’s third pointed free.
This left the half-time scoreline reading 1-7 to 0-8 in favour of Passage.
Passage had Douglas on the back foot from the resumption. Conor Coughlan and Dylan Barrett each got points from play.
Niall McCarthy also chipped in with his fifth free, to stretch the margin to five points.
Moylan responded for Douglas and Barry pointed his fourth free.
In the 39th minute, O’Keeffe set up Barry for a goal, to level matters at 1-10 each.

Passage opened up a three-point lead, with unanswered points from Conor Coughlan, Ryan Carroll and Griffin, before O’Keeffe replied for Douglas.
In the closing stages, O’Keeffe slotted over two points for Douglas. This was followed by a pointed free by Dylan Murphy.
Passage responded with two points from play by Ryan Carroll and a further point by Sean Coughlan.
