Callum Walsh back in Ireland ready to beat Tyler Denny and maintain his unbeaten professional record

Highly rated and ranked Cork professional boxer Callum (King) Walsh is boxing in Ireland on Saturday night for the first time in almost two years.

He returns home to fight English native Tyler Denny in a Middleweight contest in a ZUFFA boxing promotion event at the 3Arena that is live on Sky Sports.

Walsh is currently unbeaten, with a record of 16 victories, with 11 of these fights coming by way of knockout, however, all these fights were at Super Welterweight and he has now vacated his WBC Continental America’s Super Welterweight title since to move up a weight division. 

So, he is not just stepping up weight for this fight, he has firm plans to fight a world title in his new weight division later this year.

Walsh has worked under legendary coach Freddie Roach at the World famous Wild Card Boxing Club a mile and a half away since moving to Los Angeles five years ago, however he now works out of the Pacquiao Prime Boxing Gym, which is based just off Hollywood Boulevard. 

For this fight he will have coaches Dicky Eklund Jr, Marvin Somodio and strength and conditioning coach Alex Jamora in his corner for this fight and also have girlfriend Ricci Fabri and best friend Jake Kelly-Willmot at ringside to support him.

The last two outings for Walsh he beat Mexican Carlos at the Meta Apex Stadium in Nevada, Las Vegas by unanimous decision and also beat American southpaw Ferndando Vargas also by unanimous decision at the Allegiant Stadium also in Nevada.

However, his last visit in the 3Arena in September 2024, he knocked out Polish fighter Przemyslaw Runowski with a powerful right to the head two minutes into the second round, so he will be looking for a similar performance tomorrow night.

Walsh’s opponent, Denny was last seen in action when losing via unanimous decision to George Liddard last March at the Copper Box Arena in London.

However, the southpaw is a former European Champion and has only been stopped twice in his 28-fight career, most recently by current WBO World Super Middleweight champion Hamzah Sheeraz.

Walsh is really looking forward to his fight, especially after working hard in the last six months and a hard eight weeks of training camp.

"I think Denny is a good opponent and is going to turn up looking to win," Calum said.

“I have been watching a lot of tape of my last two fights with Dicky and we have made the necessary adjustments for this fight.

"I know he is not just going to stand there and be okay with losing so I'm definitely looking forward to the test.

"He is certainly no pushover opponent and he's going to be awkward, however, at the end of the day we're going to go in there and fight and hopefully I will come out on top,” Walsh added.

I travelled to Riverstown Boxing Club last Monday to watch Callum putting the finished touches to his training camp with coach Eklund and I was very impressed by the intention to detail by both fighter and coach.

“We had been working hard in the last six months on trying to intertwine Callum’s amateur and professional career’s,” Dicky said.

“At home in the States he had some great spars with Kevin Jamora who is an unbeaten prospect with a 14-0 record. 

"We also watched countless hours of tape of all his previous fights to try iron out any weaknesses, so I expect and excited to see a new version of the King.

“We travelled to Ireland two weeks ago to acclimatise to the time difference, as we are eight hours ahead,” Eklund added.
