Slievemish Queen produced a high- class finish to win the Southern/Carrigaline harriers Senior draghunt at Ballygarvan on Sunday.

Former Puppy All-Ireland winner Slievemish Queen produced a top-class finish to win the Southern/Carrigaline Harriers Senior draghunt at Ballygarvan on Sunday.
The 10am morning slip was just what the doctor ordered with the hounds travelling at pace throughout the draghunt.
In a driving finish four quality hounds came into view, but the winner showed the best turn of foot to cross the tape ahead of the Griffin United duo High Miss and Sean T.
Not now Al, Wolfe Tone Lady and Stargaze picked up the minor tickets.
Last season Slievemish Queen showed some decent form and although not starting this campaign in the same fashion there was no panic with her trainer Damien Wade.
“I am fully aware of what my hound can do if she gets an opportunity on the finish and today’s win was a relief as she has been unlucky in a few draghunts this season,” said Damien Wade.
In the Senior maiden draghunt there was joy for the connections of Starman’s Son when he showed his best turn of foot to win from Ger McCarthy’s Knock’s Fox of Griffin United.
The popular joint trainer James Green was in Cumbria taking in the Festival of Hound Trailing with fellow Cork association members but ironically when this hound won his first draghunt of this campaign he was also absent.
No problems in that kennel when wife Joy and her sister Susan are holding the fort with Denise Rall’s Mayfield hound Magic’s Pride snatching third ticket.
The Puppy meet was hosted at the Rising Sun and what an evening it proved for Mayfield trainer Denis Dowling when his hound Anyone on the Phone won a tremendous race.
In a tight finish the Mayfield hound showed guts and spirit to see off Mayfield hound Wolfe Tone Boy and Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers ace Handsome Jack.
The minor tickets went to Fireball, Slievemish Queen and Mossy’s Diamond.
This was a nostalgic win for the Mayfield trainer as Denis Dowling lost his father Denis Wall in recent weeks and it was understandable, he was emotional watching his hound land the spoils.
“I am both thrilled and sad by the occasion as my dad would have been so proud to see us win this draghunt and hopefully we can add a few more by the end of the season,” said Denis Dowling.
In the Puppy maiden draghunt there was a second consecutive 1.2 for the Shanakiel harriers partnership of Jerry Murphy and Sheila Cummins when Naoi’s Girl saw off kennelmate Naoi’s Boy with Mary Barrett’s Black Paddy completing a good evening for the club.
