The annual Glen Rovers/St Nick’s golf classic returns on Thursday, July 2nd, and Friday, July 3rd, with close to 70 teams set to take to the fairways of Fermoy Golf Club for one of the club’s most important fundraisers of the year.

The event has long been a central date in the Glen and St Nick’s calendar, drawing strong support from past and present members, local businesses and friends of the clubs.

This year marks the third consecutive year of sponsorship from Gym+Coffee, whose continued backing has been warmly welcomed.

Their involvement comes with a strong Glen connection through Niall Horgan, a former dual player with the club and a man who captained both Cork minor teams during his playing days. Horgan has remained a loyal supporter of the club and said he was pleased to play his part in helping the event thrive.

“Glen Rovers/St Nick’s played a vital part in my career from a very young age and I am only delighted to give something back,” he said.

“Knowing the people involved, I’ve no doubt it will be a huge success.”

Horgan’s ties to the club run even deeper through his father, John Horgan, a former secretary of Glen Rovers and a long-serving figure in the club’s administrative life. The family’s continued involvement reflects the tradition of support that has helped sustain the golf classic since its inception.

One of the most striking features of the event each year is the number of teams made up of current and former Glen and St Nick’s members, many of whom return annually to support the fundraiser. Their participation has become a hallmark of the classic, reinforcing the sense of community and connection that underpins both clubs.

The organising committee has also acknowledged the valued contribution of the Rochestown Park Hotel, who once again sponsor the Nearest the Pin prize.

The winner will receive an overnight stay with dinner for two at the hotel, a prize that always adds an extra competitive edge to the day.

While the timesheet for both days is now fully booked, the club continues to welcome tee and green sponsorships, which play a crucial role in the overall success of the fundraiser.

As always, the golf classic would not be possible without the work of the golf classic committee, who put in significant time and effort each year to ensure the event runs smoothly. Their organisation, attention to detail and commitment have helped the classic grow into a dependable and enjoyable fixture for all involved.

With strong backing, a full timesheet and a proud tradition behind it, the 2026 Glen Rovers/St Nick’s golf classic promises to be another memorable two days in Fermoy, bringing the wider club community together while raising vital funds for the year ahead.
