Cork football is back on the All-Ireland quarter-final stage, if ever there was a weekend for the Rebel public to row in behind their team, this is it.

For the first time since 2023, Leeside will have a senior football team in the last eight, heading for Croke Park with momentum, belief, and a growing sense that something is building.

Mayo will be the opposition on Saturday at 4pm.

The last couple of games has changed the tone around this group. Their performances against Meath and, most notably, that outstanding win away to Donegal have reframed the season.

What happened in the second half of the Munster final against Kerry now looks like an outlier rather than a warning sign.

They have earned their place in the last eight, and they deserve a crowd that reflects that.

Cork footballers have played too many big games in recent years without the backing they merited, often outnumbered in the stands even when performances were trending upward.

The Donegal win should be the spark. Producing a composed, courageous display spoke volumes about the character of this team. They were clinical when it mattered, disciplined when the pressure came on, and confident enough to play their football in an unforgiving environment.

That type of performance does not happen by accident. It comes from belief, preparation, and a collective spirit that has been forged over months of work.

There is also a wider significance to this weekend. Cork football has been working hard to re-establish itself as a consistent force in the All-Ireland series. Reaching the last eight is not the end point, but it is a key juncture.

The players have done their part. They have travelled, trained, recovered, and delivered when the pressure was highest. Now it is the public’s turn.

The journey up the M8 is shorter when there is purpose behind it, and this weekend, Cork have given their supporters every reason to make it.

If ever there was a time for the Rebel public to get behind their team, this is it.

Croke Park awaits. The quarter-final awaits. Cork are back in the last eight.
