The reigning champion Sean T of Griffin United returned to winning ways when winning the Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers Senior draghunt at Tower on Sunday.

In a true run draghunt the winner showed all his class to win by a comfortable margin from the Gary, Joe and Nicole Freyne Clogheen trained duo of Not now May and Not now Al.

Credit to the winning hound when he gets an opportunity on the finish, he can take it and trainers John and Sean O’Sullivan were delighted after securing their second win of the season.

“We are thrilled as Sean T has a lot of mileage on the clock but when in the right mood he is capable of producing what we witnessed today,” said John O’Sullivan.

In the Senior Maiden draghunt there was a popular winner when Midday Rambler trained by Andrew O’Callaghan of Mayfield landed the spoils in a good finish.

In almost an identical time to their Senior counterparts the winner crossed the tape ahead of the ultra-consistent Not now Betty from the Clogheen kennel of Gary, Joe and Nicola Freyne with Chloe Murray’s The Dreamer snatching third ticket.

The Puppy meeting at the same venue proved to be a huge success and it was another great evening for Clogheen trainers William Freyne and Ryan Duffy when their charge Putting on the Style won his third draghunt of the season in impressive style.

The one guarantee you get from this course is good open running and the winning hound who is showing dominance and class in recent weeks relished it.

In a good race to the tape the winner crossed ahead of Mossy’s Diamond trained by Mayfield brothers Kyle and Callum McCarthy with the winning kennel also filling third ticket with One day at a Time.

The remaining ticketing hounds were Blue Lilly, Wolfe Tone Boy and Anyone on the Phone.

The Puppy Maiden draghunt took two minutes slower to complete the course but the McCarthy brothers from Mayfield went one better when their charge Mossy’s Diamond prevailed.

In another good finish the winner held off the challenge of the Shanakiel harriers, quartet of Polo Bear, Naoi Girl, Black Paddy and Naoi Boy with Highway Lass securing sixth ticket.

The English International committee have announced that this years International meeting will be hosted at Edges Green on Saturday June 20.

Gone are the days when Irish hounds used to cross the Irish Sea to compete in the Blue Riband meeting but with the majority of courses now in the HTA not neutral it certainly doesn’t give the majority of competing trainers a fair crack of the whip.

Northern Hunt will host their Puppy and Senior draghunts next weekend with times to be confirmed for the Puppy on Saturday and the Senior meet on Sunday both at the Haunted House.
