Inniscarra and Muskerry GAA are united in grief following the passing of Paddy O’Mahony on Saturday.
He was a lifelong clubman of his beloved Inniscarra with his dedication, integrity and quiet leadership leaving an enduring mark on Gaelic games. Paddy also spent his life within Muskerry GAA, widely regarded as one of Muskerry’s most loyal servants.
He was a proud Inniscarra man, contributing at every level, from juvenile coaching to supporting adult teams. His encouragement of young players, his willingness to help wherever needed, and his calm presence made him a central figure in the club’s growth and spirit.

Paddy’s influence, however, extended far beyond Inniscarra. Within the Muskerry division, he was a familiar and trusted figure, known for his fairness, reliability and unwavering commitment to promoting Gaelic games across Mid-Cork. He served in multiple roles over the years, always bringing the same thoughtful approach and responsibility.
Over an incredible 56 years of service to Muskerry, his tenure included 18 years as registrar, 35 years as secretary, and three years as president.
Beyond Muskerry, Paddy also made a significant contribution at county level. From the early 1960s through to the late 1970s, he served as a selector with Cork’s U21 and minor hurling teams.
Whether attending divisional meetings, stewarding championship fixtures or representing Inniscarra or Muskerry at Cork GAA gatherings, Paddy was the kind of volunteer every organisation depends on — steady, knowledgeable and dependable.
He worked tirelessly behind the scenes without ever seeking recognition. His contributions helped shape Muskerry GAA into what it is today.
Muskerry GAA chairman Ed Warren paid tribute in a short statement to The Echo.
“It’s with profound regret I learned of Paddy O’Mahony’s death on Saturday evening. A true Gael. Paddy gave a lifetime of service to Inniscarra and Muskerry GAA in so many roles.
"On behalf of Muskerry GAA, I wish to extend our deepest sympathies to Seán, Ger, Maura and the extended family at this difficult time.”

His passing leaves a significant void, but his legacy will endure in both Inniscarra and Muskerry GAA for many years to come.
Paddy was the husband of the late Mary and loving dad of Seán, Ger and Maura (Ring), and adored grandfather of Laura, Karen, Bryan, Louise, Kevin, Keith, Clíona, Paul and Meadhbh. He is sadly missed by his loving family, daughters-in-law Kay and Theresa, son-in-law Denis, grandchildren, kind neighbours and friends.
Paddy will repose in St Mary’s Church, Berrings, this evening from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, followed by prayers. Requiem Mass takes place at 11am tomorrow, with funeral afterwards to St John’s Cemetery, Coachford.
