It has been an up-and-down league so far for Cork senior camogie team.

They started with losses to Waterford and Antrim but followed it up with an impressive win over Kilkenny. That clash with the Cats saw the likes of Laura Hayes, Sorcha McCartan, along with Meabh and Orlaith Cahalane return to the starting side.

Their penultimate league tie was against Tipperary last Saturday and it ended all square, 2-8 to 1-11, with Orlaith Cahalane and Emma Murphy getting Cork’s goals.

Having led by eight at half-time in the end Cork were lucky to get the draw, with the wind playing a major part in this clash.

That had it in the first half to lead by 2-6 to 0-4 at the break but only scored two points from frees after half time.

It turned out to be a frustrating afternoon for the Rebels, a sentiment that Laura Hayes agreed with afterwards.

“Yeah, look, I suppose we were probably lucky in the end to get a point out of it, but yea hugely frustrated and disappointed,” said Laura.

“I thought we did alright in the first half, but we were just all over the place in the second half.

I thought we kind of come quite well after the Kilkenny game, so it was just disappointing to come out with that kind of performance, more than the result.

“I think we just kind of completely lost our shape and the game kind of ran away from us a small bit. To be fair to Tipp, they worked really hard.

“They were really physical and I think at times we probably struggled to deal with that. So, look, we're probably going to have to go in and work on that now for next week.”

MORE TO COME

Reflecting on the first half, there were positives as Cork were excellent at times and picked off some great scores.

“I'm sure when we look back and we calm down a small bit there might be a few positives to take from it, definitely. We are happy to get a point on the board and hopefully now we'll probably avoid relegation, but look, honestly, we’re very disappointed with that.

“It’s hard to see the positives, but at the end of the day, the league is for building and there's another few players got a run today, so we'll be happy with that.

“I came back last week, and a few others came back last week, and Saoirse (McCarthy) was back today. So, I think that's really pleasing. You know that only adds to the intensity of training.

“I'm sure come a few more games, they'll definitely be much, much more confident on the ball and all that. But look, we're happy to be back and it's much better to be on the pitch anyway, that's for sure.

“As I said at the end of the day the league is for building players and the championship is where it all matters, so hopefully we'll come good for them.”
