Cork 2-8 Tipperary 1-11

It ended all square between Cork and Tipp in their Centra Camogie Division 1A league clash at Páirc Ui Rinn on Saturday.

A draw was probably a fair result and it means there is still a lot at stake for both sides in their final game next weekend in the round robin stage.

The wind was a major factor during the game with Cork having it in the first half as they led by six points at the break.

It was then a case of if it was enough to hold out. It looked like they were going to until Tipp got a late point to see it end all square.

Sorcha McCartan opened the scoring for Cork from a free two minutes in, with Caoimhe Stakelum equalising for Tipp from the restart.

Tipp missed a number of chances to go in front, with four wides before the next score came.

It took until the 11th minute for it to arrive as Cork found the back of the net. McCartan played the ball in from a sideline and Emma Murphy pulled on the breaking ball to make it 1-1 to 0-1.

Aoife Dwyer pulled a point back for Tipp before Laura Hayes scored a long-range point, using the wind in Cork’s favour to her full advantage.

Hayes was involved again for Cork’s second goal when she played a long ball out of defence to Orlaith Cahalane.

She beat several defenders before sending an unstoppable shot to the back of the net, to make it 2-2 to 0-2. Cahalane added a point to increase Cork’s lead with Hayley Ryan adding another to make it 2-4 to 0-2 after 20 minutes.

Dwyer pulled a point back for Tipp, with Roisin Howard also on target to reduce the deficit.

McCartan got the last score of the half, from another free, to see Cork lead by 2-6 to 0-4 at the break, but Tipp were going to have the advantage of the strong wind in the second half.

Tipp were back in contention four minutes into the second half when they found the back of the net.

A free deep inside their own half was brought forward for descent. That meant the goal was now in range and Stakelum got on the end of Celine Guinan’s free to make it 1-4 to 2-6.

Two frees from Eimear McGrath had only the goal between the sides with 42 minutes gone, as Tipp were making full use of the wind.

She hit another free to put only two between the sides, before McCartan got Cork’s first score of the second half.

With 49 minutes gone Cork’s lead was down to two again, this time Stakelum splitting the posts to make it 2-7 to 1-8.

McGrath pointed again for Tipp to put only one between the sides as the strong wind was playing its part.

McCartan scored for Cork, from another free, to make it a two-point game, with three minutes to go, 2-8 to 1-9.

Tippe missed a goal chance to win the tie, with Clodagh McIntyre mis-hitting with the goal at her mercy.

McGrath pointed to put one between them again and it looked like Cork would hang on for the win, with the three minutes of injury-time gone.

But Tipp had one last play and McIntyre made up for her earlier miss to point to see it end all level.
