Cork boxer Steven Cairns in action on Saturday against Londoner Arnie Dawson
Steven Cairns, professional boxer
Cork professional boxer Steven ( The Irish Takeover ) Cairns will be in action again this Saturday night when he will fight London born fighter Arnie Dawson for the WBA Lightweight Continental title at the 3 Arena in Dublin, which is part of a big Queensberry Promotion event that will be live on DAZN TV.
He is currently unbeaten with a perfect record of 13-0 with eight of those bouts coming by knockout.
Cairns will be looking to show his signature left hook to the body that has finished most of his previous fights.
That punch has had commentators, former World champions, Carl Frampton and Tony Bellew showering the Cork man with praise for his explosive style.
Cairns opponent was originally Coli Gibbs from Birmingham, England, who had a record of 20-1, however, he picked an injury a few weeks ago and had to pull out.
He will now fight London native Arnie Dawson, whose only loss on his record came against Mitchell Smith for the WBO European Lightweight title by unanimous decision in the 02 Arena in Greenwich last March.
This will be the biggest fight of Cairns career to date and he was last in action last December when he beat Cesar Ignacio Paredes on points at the Vaillant Live Arena in Derby.
“My upcoming fight is in the 3 Arena in Dublin on Saturday, and I’ll be fighting for my first title as a pro for the WBA Continental title," Steven said.
“It’s a huge boxing night for Irish boxing, and I’m delighted to be part of such a big night and being allowed to showcase my skills in front of my family and friends.
“I was originally meant to fight another boxer, Coli Gibbs, but he pulled out with an injury, so now I’m fighting Arnie Dawson from London and he’s a good fighter, another fellow prospect coming to win, but I think it’s gonna make a great fight for the fans.
“My training camp has been great.
"I’ve been away from home for the last 12 weeks focusing on the job at hand.
"I’ve been getting some great sparring in with current European champion Josh Padly and current IBO champion Lewis Sylvester and many more. "I’ve been sparring 10 rounds and I'm the fittest and sharpest I’ve ever been.
“After the fight, I’m going to come back down to Cork to have some good family time, eat some food that I haven’t been able to eat for 12 weeks and probably head away on a holiday before heading back to the UK to see what’s next for me."
Steven will be hoping to put in another sparkling performance, especially in front of his loyal supporters, and win his first professional title.
That will put him into the WBA top ten rankings, and put him in line for European and world title fights at the end of this year or early next year.
“This year, I hope to win my first title on Saturday, which will get me ranked in the top 10 in the world, and then it’s about taking each fight as it comes, moving up the ranks to fight for a world title fight, however, I would like to be looking at a European title fight by end of this year or start of 2027,” Cairns added.
