The Cork senior footballers are once again heading on a warm-weather training camp to Portugal.

For the third successive year, John Cleary’s charges are going to the Algarve at the exclusive Quinta do Lago resort used by the Irish rugby team.

The Rebels are expected to fly off for a good few days with a two-week break coming up between the matches.

Cork make the mammoth journey up north this weekend where they will meet Derry this Sunday in the fifth round of the Allianz Division 2 Football League at Find Insurance Celtic Park with throw-in at 1pm.

Cork have 13 days until the next match when Kildare come to SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh for the penultimate league fixture on Saturday, March 14 (5pm).

The Rebels currently are in a great position in the league with their promotion hopes most certainly on given they have eight points from the first four games.

The foreign training camp has definitely benefited the Cork footballers over the last couple of years. They have come back from Portugal with a spring in their step.

In 2024, they returned to Ireland after the camp to beat Meath away and drew at home to the eventual All-Ireland champions Armagh. The Leesiders finished fourth in the league.

Last year, Cork got the better of Louth at home before a fine away success against Cavan as the Rebels ended fifth, but just missed out on promotion and could have very well been relegated had they not beaten Cavan.
