Blow to Cork and her club sides as Aoife Healy heads to Australia

Cork dual star Aoife Healy is heading to Australia to play Aussie rules football with Fremantle.

Healy will be a huge loss and was one of the few remaining dual stars for Cork over the last few seasons.

The versatile player is comfortable playing in defence or midfield and at times has also been used in the forward line.

She was part of the Cork side that won the All-Ireland camogie title in 2024 and 2023 and has been a key player for them for some time.

Healy was also a key player in the football side, helping Cork to gain promotion back to Division One of the Lidl National Football league for the coming season.

Her influence around the middle of the pitch will be a blow to Joe Carroll and his side.

Also heading to Australia is Waterford star Emma Murray, who is joining Geelong.

Both will be joining a growing number of Irish players now playing professionally in Australia, including the likes of Erika O’Shea and Vikki Wall, both part of the North Melbourne Kangaroos side that won the Grand Final recently for the second year in a row.

Healy has also been a star player at club level and will be a huge loss to them as well. Healy played camogie with Aghada and football with Cloyne/St Colmans.
