There was another Cork boxer in action at the NOWHERE2HYDE Promotion event at the GUC Parochial Arena last Saturday night when Brian 'BB' Long put in a devastating display to move to 3-0 and remain unbeaten.

This was Long’s first professional fight in his native Cork when he stepped in the ring with English fighter William O’Reilly in a four round Super Middleweight bout.

He beat Brazilian Douglas Silva in his first professional fight in the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland last June and a month later beat another Brazilian Jhony Rodrigo Dos Santos in his second fight in Lowell Memorial Auditorium in Massachusetts.

He came to the ring to tremendous cheer’s from his loyal supporters and he certainly didn’t let them down with a very polished performance.

He started the opening round with two powerful left hooks to his opponent head that had him on the back foot from the very first bell.

He followed up by letting his hand go and landed some telling shot’s that had O’Reilly in trouble and pinned against the ropes.

He finished the round by punishing the English native with two more powerful overhand right hooks to his opponent’s body that caught the judges eye.

Long again started the second round a little more cautious, however, when he left his hands go he hurt O’Reilly with a couple of short hooks to the head.

Long was well on top in this round and hurt his opponent with a good combination’s to the head and body and finished the round with O’Reilly on the ropes again.

The Cork man again was pushing the pace early in the third round and had O’Reilly in trouble with some punishing shots to the head that opened a cut under English man’s left eye.

He showed some great composure later into the round, where he picked O’Reilly off with a combinations to the head and body.

He closed out the round with a punishing right hook that floored O’Reilly and the English man was lucky to make the count.

Long smelled blood and from the very first minute he chased his opponent down and landed some telling shot’s that put his opponent down again and the refferee had no other choice but to call a halt to the fight.

This was an excellent performance by Long and showed was an aggressive fighter he is, however, he will come up against much more difficult opponents that O’Reilly, but this fight will definitely give him plenty of confidence going forward.

The Super Middleweight is stacked with some great talent in Ireland, with follow Cork lads Tommy Hyde and Cathal Crowley leading the way and then Kerry native Kevin Cronin and Dubliner Emmet Brennan all making waves in this Division.

Before the main card they were two amateur bouts with two young Cork, one Waterford and a Portlaise fighter’s all getting a chance to fight before a huge crowd under the lights.

This was a great opportunity for those lads as it gives them an insight to see into what it takes to be in a professional surroundings.

Cork’s Eoghan Walsh from Fr Horgan’s fought Adam Kiely from Saviour Crystal Waterford to get the show on the road.
