Munster Senior League 4

The Cork Business League entertained the MSL team in the second Oscar Traynor Trophy – Munster Area Semi-Final at Mayfield Park.

In an entertaining contest the hosts were intent on ending a 33 year gap since last beating their opponents in the competition.

After Juan De Villa shot narrowly over for the hosts, the talented play maker supplied an incisive pass inside the back four which resulted in home captain Aaron O’Sullivan being taken down on his route to goal.

Billy Tabb converted the resultant penalty high into the roof of the net in the 24th minute.

The visitors always looked dangerous on the break and from a bout of pressure Stephen Kennedy was quickest to react inside the area to slot home the equalizer off the post on the half hour.

The CBL weathered the storm to go in front for a second time in first-half added time, Tabb again getting the final touch to a ball played through the centre.

With the visitors continually pushing forward in search of an equalizer, it was Kennedy who was in the right place a the right to score after host’s keeper Miguel Barcena Gomez could only parry sub Jack Clarke’s close range shot in the 73rd minute.

With five minutes remaining a Jordan Delurey penalty and a third from Kennedy finally broke the home side’s gallant resistance in what was a fine advert for Cork junior soccer.
