With Aghabullogue’s marginal win on Sunday over Uibh Laoire in the Premier Intermediate Football Championship final bringing the action across the top three grades to a close, it’s time to look back at the final standings across the scoring charts.

From July to November, the football championship stretched and simmered. There’s been plenty to unpack, perhaps the most striking of all that the Premier Senior football top scorer outgunned everyone across the top three grades of hurling.

That was Steven Sherlock, of course. A machine in blue and gold again, his 6-41 across six games powered St Finbarr’s and placed him in a bracket of his own. Newcestown’s David Buckley stayed in the slipstream with 0-46, but nobody caught Sherlock.

The county final’s heat lifted totals across the board, yet the order barely shifted. Bryan Hayes nudged himself into the frame to join a tie for ninth, while Mark Cronin stretched his gap on Fiachra Lynch in fourth. Cronin also climbed into the top four from play, though Sherlock – from play as well as placed balls – remained clearly ahead.

For the Barrs, Hayes and William Buckley both entered the top 10 conversation as the season ended, creating a four-way tie for ninth alongside Castlehaven’s Jack Cahalane and Newcestown’s Buckley.

In the Senior A grade, Knocknagree’s Anthony O’Connor was uncatchable, his 2-29 leaving him 12 clear of Clyda’s Conor Corbett. Cill na Martra’s Jason Mac Cárthaigh surged late to edge Kanturk’s Grantas Bucinskas for third.

O’Connor also ruled the from-play charts, with Denis R O’Connor behind him. Only Diarmuid Mac Thomáis’s 2-11 for Béal Átha’n Ghaorthaidh stopped a Knocknagree top-three sweep after matching Michael McSweeney’s 1-14.

And in Premier Intermediate, the pattern repeated. The overall top scorer was the top scorer from play as well. Chris Óg Jones led the way overall with 7-28, Aghabullogue’s Luke Casey pushed him hard all the way, a point shy in the from-play charts and second overall.

Macroom’s Pa Lucey rounded out the podium, while Naomh Abán’s Ed Ó Mir finished third from play.
