It’s been a busy few weeks for Seandún GAA Division with their Junior A and B finals over the last few weekends.
The football finals threw up a superb A final between Nemo and Mayfield. It was a case of third time lucky for Nemo as they defeated Mayfield to claim the AOS Security Seandún Junior A Football title by 3-15 to 2-11, with Ross Corkery playing a major role with a couple of two pointers when he came on.
Ballyphehane won the Junior B football title with a big win over St Vincent’s.
In the Junior B hurling, it looked like a late score had secured the title for Brian Dillons, but credit to Blackrock, they worked the ball up the pitch to reply at the other end and lift the cup.
All three were quality games, but they were surpassed by the A hurling final between Whitechurch and Na Piarsaigh.
The first day out there was nothing between them, and it went to a replay. Even then, at the final whistle, there was only a point in it as Whitechurch retained their title in front of a huge crowd at MTU.
But as games start to come to a close, there is still plenty of activity within the division.
“This year is a special one for the division as it celebrates its 100th anniversary,” said chairman Mick Buckley.
“There are several events planned to commemorate the anniversary in the coming weeks, including a celebratory dinner, book launch, and stone unveiling at Ballinlough GAA Grounds.”

The first of these will be the launch of a book to mark 100 years of the division, which will take place at 7pm on Wednesday, November 12, at Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
A small working group was set up at the start of the year to undertake this work, led by Peter Devine.
In a relatively short time, they managed to produce a book packed with information on all the club going back over 100 years, as well as other stories about the division.
These include ones that people may never have heard of before, about characters who played a role in Seandún, or about a special tree at their grounds at Ballinlough.
“The work done by this group of people has been phenomenal, and I would like to thank all of them for their commitment to this project over this year,” added Mr Buckley.
“Special thanks must go to Peter Devine for leading this project, who has put in countless hours to ensure the book is now ready to be purchased.
“It can be pre-ordered now ahead of the formal launch on November 12, and we hope to see a large crowd at the event at the launch and all are welcome to attend.
“I would also like to thank Liam Hayes of Hero Books, who published the book for us. He was a pleasure to deal with over the year.
“On another note, I would also like to thank and acknowledge all our sponsors, as without them it’s very hard to run our competitions, so we are thankful to all who have supported us this season and over many seasons at this stage,” concluded Mr Buckley.
The book can be pre-ordered by scanning the barcode in the picture with this article, through the Seandún social media channels or come along to the launch to purchase it.
