White’s Cross have booked their place in the knock-out stages of the AOS Security Seandún Junior A Hurling Championship, as they defeated Blackrock at Ballinlough.

White’s Cross will meet Glen Rovers in a play-off to decide who will meet Na Piarsaigh to decide the fourth semi-final spot.

The opening quarter was evenly contested, until White’s Cross got three unanswered goals in the second quarter. 

In the second half, Blackrock outscored White’s Cross 1-12 to 1-8, with seven of these points from placed-balls.

Blackrock made the better start, but White’s Cross net-minder Shane Cahill saved Vaughan Ryan’s goal-bound shot at the expense of a 65. Blackrock goalkeeper Paul O’Brien’s shot was narrowly off target.

Eddie Coughlan opened the scoring as he converted a sideline cut for White’s Cross in the fourth minute, before Robert Cregan opened Blackrock’s account with a point from play.

John McElhinney and Daniel Kelleher each tagged on points for White’s Cross. 

Blackrock levelled matters at 0-3 apiece courtesy of a point from play by Brian Lynch and their first free by Luke Fogarty.

Blackrock’s Fogarty, Dave Garvan and Jack O’Sullivan each added points for Blackrock, while Eddie Coughlan replied for White’s Cross with three points including two frees.

Entering the second quarter, White’s Cross had Blackrock pinned back as Kelleher drilled home two unanswered goals. 

Ronan Healy also got a goal, to stretch the margin to nine points.

Blackrock responded with two points, including a free by Fogarty, which left the half-time scoreline reading 3-6 to 0-8 in favour of White’s Cross.

Persistent fouling was proving to be costly for White’s Cross in the opening minutes of the second half as Lynch converted two frees for Blackrock. White’s Cross responded with two points, including a free by Eddie Coughlan, before Fogarty and Healy traded points from play.

Cregan and Lynch each added points for Blackrock. Fogarty converted two frees approaching the final quarter. 

Eddie Coughlan replied with a pointed free for White’s Cross.

Seamus Quinlan and Kelleher each got points for White’s Cross. 

Peter Leneghan replied with a point for Blackrock and Fogarty converted a free.

In the 53rd minute, Kelleher set up McElhinney for a fourth goal for White's Cross, while a minute later, Cregan set up Fogarty for Blackrock’s goal. This left the scoreline reading 4-12 to 1-17 in favour of White’s Cross.

In the closing stages, McElhinney and Fogarty exchanged points from play. Lynch converted a 65 and a free for Blackrock.
