Zodiac Jack of Southern/Carrigaline harriers produced another sold performance to win the Shanakiel Harriers Senior draghunt at Kilbrittain on Sunday.

The cooler conditions made life a little easier for the hounds and credit to the host club they provided good open terrain.

When the hounds came into view, they were a few in with a chance of landing the spoils but in the style of a good hound the winner showed her class to cross the tape ahead of High Miss trained by Donal O’Donovan of Griffin United.

The Martin Wall Northern Hunt trained Wolfe Tone Lass snatched third ticket with Sean T, Knock’s Boy and Not now May picking up the minor tickets.

The winner trained by Ger and Jennifer Kenneally was winning its second draghunt in a fortnight and connections were mighty pleased with its latest success.

“Great to win again with Zodiac Jack who has found a new lease of life in the last fortnight and she has proved that distance seems to be right up her alley,” said Ger Kenneally.

In the Senior maiden Mayfield trainer Denise Rall was thrilled to see Magic’s Beauty prevail as she showed great determination to cross the tape ahead of clubmate Tadgh’s Lad from the kennel of Mickey O’Brien.

The consistent Not now Betty of Clogheen filled third ticket and by virtue of this win the winner is now promoted to the Senior grade.

There was joy in the Puppy and Puppy maiden draghunt with both trainers experiencing their first wins of the season in this grade.

In the Puppy draghunt the Andrew O’Callaghan trained Midday Star of Mayfield produced a magnificent run to cross the tape ahead of the Ger and Noah McCarthy trained Knock’s Max with champion elect Slievemish Duchess running another solid race to fill third ticket.

To be fair the winning trainer is one of the oldest in the sport and his appetite for winning has never waned over many decades.

“Great to win as my son Gary bought this bitch in England back in July and we can see she is improving with every run and it’s great to be back on the winner’s rostrum,” said Andrew.

The biggest cheer of the evening was reserved for the Puppy maiden winner as the Marguerite Busteed trained Danganmore Tommy picked his first ever win.

The Busteed family are involved in the sport for many years and although having little or no luck over the last few years they have continued to persevere.

For Marguerite Busteed this was a day she thought would never come.

“Look it’s only a Puppy maiden race but yes its great to win and we are so happy with only a few weeks left in the season,” said Marguerite.
