Slievemish Duchess of Clogheen has been crowned the 2025 Puppy champion after producing a wonderful consistent season that included getting nine wins under her belt.

Trained by Damien Wade the daughter of Slievemish Spring and Misty clinched the title on Sunday last when she finished a gallant runner to Born to Run in the Donal O’Mahony Puppy draghunt at Blarney.

The runner up slot took her points tally to 98 and with nearest challenger Mexican Jet on the 69 mark even if the Shanakiel harriers youngster won the final three draghunts it still would not be enough to overtake the Clogheen ace.

Speaking this week trainer Damien Wade praised his champion in the manner she had run all season.

“I am thrilled as she is bred from my own hound and right from the early weeks of setting her off, I had a feeling there was something special about her.

“For my club Clogheen to have a champion in a Puppy season for the second- year running is a great achievement,” said Damien Wade.

The race for the Senior champion is still very much in the melting pot but the one definite is that we have a two- hound race for the title.

Sean T trained by Sean and John O’Sullivan of Griffin United has a 15- point lead with only three draghunts and 24 points up for grabs.

High Miss trained by Donal O’Donovan still has an outside chance in second place but at this present time the advantage is firmly with his clubmate.

In the Senior maiden championship Clogheen trainer Damien Wade has a chance of completing a double with his charge Slievemish Lord who is at the summit on 49 points.

The Clogheen hound has lost form in recent weeks and Rodman trained by Pat O’Mahony of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers is only trailing the leader by four points.

The Puppy maiden title will go the Gerry Murphy and Sheila Cummins Shanakiel harriers kennel with the fun running Tiger’s Belle looking the likely champion.
