Everton Football Club is committed to providing opportunities for players of all ages and abilities.

To ensure that every child has the chance to begin their football journey as early as possible, next weekend the Togher based club will launch a new coaching programme for children from the age of three years old.

The exciting initiative is designed to introduce children to the game in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.

To make sure no session is cancelled due to our Irish weather, they have secured an indoor facility which will ensure all sessions go ahead no matter how the weather is.

Schoolgirls chairperson Margaret O’Donovan is thrilled to be able to provide such a programme for the kids in particular for the surrounding areas of Ballyphehane, Togher and Turner's Cross but has stressed it’s open to all boys and girls from around Cork City.

“We are really excited to kick off this new programme on Saturday which we believe will be a huge success,” said O’Donovan.

“We believe by starting the kids to play at a young age, it will aim to build not only football skills but also confidence, teamwork, and a lifelong love of the game.

“Our new programme is called “Everton Kickstarters” its aimed at 3-5 year olds boys and girls and will be held in Presentation secondary school Ballyphehane.

"It’s an indoor hall, starting this Saturday at 10am. There is a great hype about it currently so we are eagerly awaiting to get started.”

The Togher based club has grown at a steady pace and just this season they fielded their first Everton senior ladies side.

From increasing numbers at senior level it was brought to the committee’s attention the demand for younger age groups and so they decided to see what interest would be for their new programme.

“There was a huge demand for this age group. Every week people were asking had we sessions for kids from the ages of three years of age.

"We are now delighted to be able to provide this facility to all that’s interested.

“Our academies are outdoor so when we have bad weather we need to cancel which isn’t ideal but at least we now know we can guarantee parents that these sessions will go ahead every week.

"Registrations for our new programme went live last week and places are almost full.

“As a club we feel it’s very important that we can cater for all ages.

"We have teams across all ages starting with Kickstarter’s Academy girls and boys, Schoolgirls, Schoolboys, youths, adult mens and last season history was made for the club with our first ever Seniors women team.

"It’s great to see numbers growing week in week out and our girls section has grown hugely over the last two years.

"We as a club have many ambitions and gradually we are ticking boxes as we go along which is great.

“We set ourselves goals on an annual basis and in administration for both Academy’s and Schoolgirls as chairperson, my aim for 25/26 is to keep growing our club across all sections and start our biggest project to date which will be our astro pitch at Everton Park.

"This is a real exciting time for the club.

“Last season was a great season overall with all schoolgirls/schoolboys been promoted.

"Our senior womens had a great first season. We are very lucky that we have such dedicated and committed coaches who put a lot of time and effort into their teams.

"Most coaches are parents and the help is much needed but as always the more help the better, our club and teams cannot run without the help from the volunteers.

“One such volunteer who has had a massive impact in the growth of our club is Sean Cotter.

"He has stepped down from the sidelines but is still very involved in the girls section of the club as Academy Co-ordinator and will be driving the girls forward every week.

"Sean is an inspiration and never stops pushing the girls section forward. And long may that continue.”
