A magnificent closing 10 minutes from Glanmire yielded two goals and ended Éire Og’s unbeaten run in the Rebel Óg Premier 1 MFC at Glanmire.

In a highly entertaining game, Glanmire came good when the game hung in the balance to save their season.

The visitors almost raised the opening green flag just two minutes into the game but after Cian O’Flynn was left with a one-on-one with only the goalkeeper to beat his finish let him down.

Harry Browne edged Glanmire ahead a minute later from a placed ball but in an all-action game, Éire Óg punished the home side on their next possession.

The Glanmire defence looked all at sea when Darragh Sheehan was given a free passage to goal before finishing with precision to the corner of the net. The visitors looked comfortable going forward as the Glanmire defence were struggling to cope with their pace.

The hosts were unlucky midway through the half when a superb Finn O’Connor run saw him place a pass to Billy O’Mahony but, despite batting the ball the net, he was deemed inside the square when receiving the pass.

Credit to Glanmire, they responded with Browne executing a two-pointer from a free that saw the teams tied with 10 minutes remaining to the interval. They showed more resilience and a stunning Browne two-pointer and one from Cathal Galvin restored their one-point lead.

The Ovens came again and deep into added time levelled proceedings 0-7 to 1-4 courtesy of a Sean Hurley point.

The home team were dealt a blow on the restart when Éire Óg exposed some more poor defending with Hurley finding the back of the net after just 50 seconds. The response was instant and consecutive points from O’Mahony and O’Connor brought it down to the minimum again.

It was still in the melting pot midway through half but Glanmire took the finger off the pulse and allowed Cian Thompson in for a soft goal that extended the Éire Óg lead to four points.

Just when the Ovens looked to be in ascendancy, they were stunned into submission with O’Mahony producing a classy finish to find the back of the net in the 50th minute.

Glanmire got a huge contribution from substitute Darragh McSweeney and when he placed Harry Browne in for the clinching goal it had the home fans in raptures as they knicked it at the death.
