Another week, another defeat for Cork City with the Rebel Army going down to Treaty United at Turner’s Cross on Saturday evening in the Women’s Premier Division.

There was a trademark fast start but that faded after Isabella Flocchini, Madelyn Robbins, and Mara McCleary hit the back of the net in the pouring rain for the visitors.

New signing Aine Walsh pulled one back in the 82nd minute but it was too little too late as Treaty took the Munster Derby bragging rights.

There were moments of positivity for City, a group that went into the game aiming to snap their 11-game winless run in all competitions.

Before Saturday, the last time that the Rebel Army won was against Waterford on April 12th at Turner’s Cross.

With this in mind, City tried to blitz Treaty early on and the flurry peaked in just the sixth minute with Eva Mangan shooting just wide inside the area.

Treaty simply soaked up the pressure and set up Madelyn Robbins for a close-range attempt at the St Anne’s End that went straight to Clodagh Fitzgerald.

The would-be-scorer turned creator by setting up Isabella Flocchini for a curling finish in the 23rd minute from inside the area.

Katie Lawlee had an opportunity to double their lead during Treaty’s next attack, and Ciara McNamara dealt with this by closing down and forcing the teenager into a rushed shot that went harmlessly out of play.

City responded by sending the ball to Christina Dring, who was able to win a corner in the 40th minute. Eva Mangan used that to pick out Ellie O’Brien, which resulted in a right-footed cross that came off the crossbar. Zoe Finnerty got to the loose ball as Treaty scrambled together, but there was no equaliser as the defender fired over at the back-post.

The Rebel Army had one other chance to equalise before the break, from a Mangan free-kick, and this was kicked straight into the hands of Liisa Maria Tuomi.

City picked up where they left off, only to see their advance ended by a quick counter and a neat Robbins finish in the 49th minute.

That was followed by a change with Ciara O’Driscoll replacing McNamara in defence and Shanuagh McCarthy took the captain’s armband.

This meant nothing to Treaty, as they turned their control into a Mara McCleary goal in the 68th minute at the Shed End.

Walsh’s goal injected life late on, with a stunning strike that went straight into the top corner.

Mangan tried to set up big finish, only to see her effort scrambled off the line in the 85th minute.

Mackin also got into space on the left wing and the defender’s cross went out for a goal-kick in added time.
