Division 1 HL: Sean Walsh all but secures top scorer with sensational haul of 2-90

After firing over 0-12 in Carrigtwohill’s final-round defeat to Sarsfields, Seán Walsh has effectively sealed his place as the RedFM Division 1 Hurling League’s top scorer — both overall and from play..
Walsh finishes the league campaign with a remarkable 2-90 (96 points) across nine games. With just the league final remaining between Sarsfields and St Finbarr’s, the nearest challenger, William Buckley, would need an impossible 47 points to catch him.
Round nine results confirmed Walsh's place at the top, finishing 15 clear of Fr O’Neill’s Kevin O’Sullivan (2-73), who missed the final round through injury.
The rest of the top eight remain unchanged after the last round – Brian Kelleher is third for Carrigaline with 0-71, Eoin O’Leary is 20 points back in fourth with 4-39, while William Buckley completes the top five with 2-44.
Despite neither Alan Cadogan or Rory Sheahan playing any hurling last weekend, the two remain sixth and seventh with 1-43 and 2-38 respectively. Dean Brosnan scored once against Douglas, but remains eighth.

Leaping into the top 15 and up to ninth is Colm McCarthy, with his 2-34 making him one of two Sarsfields hurlers to sneak into the top 15. The two are joined by Glen Rovers’ former minor star Diarmuid Wall, who boasts a very impressive 2-33 (2-10 from play) in just his first year playing senior.
Douglas’ Conor Kingston and Sarsfields’ Shane O’Regan also broke into the top 15 after strong final-round displays. Their rise came at the expense of Blackrock’s Kevin O’Keeffe, Fionn Coleman, and Robbie Cotter, who were sidelined following Kanturk’s walkover.
While Walsh’s overall scoring crown is beyond doubt, the “from play” leaderboard is slightly more vulnerable.
Dean Brosnan is second and seven points behind, but third placed William Buckley would need at least nine from play in the final, should he feature. Shane O’Regan is fourth with 3-25, but would need 12 or more from play to knock Walsh off top spot.

His haul of 1-5 from play against Carrig brought him from seventh to fourth on the from play chart, dropping Fionn Coleman, Alan Walsh and Eoin O’Leary down one spot each, to fifth, sixth and seventh.
The rest of the top 13 from play remains unchanged, though Conor Kingston and Luke Horgan’s high tallies when Douglas met Glen Rovers last time out ensured the two have crept into the top 15, at least until Sars play the Barrs in the final.
