Dromtariffe 5-19

Kilbrin 0-12

All pretty straight forward for a highly impressive Dromtariffe side over holders Kilbrin in a one sided Twohig's Supervalu Duhallow JAHL Final played in Banteer on Sunday.

An air of inevitability hung over the contest by half time, Dromtariffe’s dominance reflected on holding an eleven point advantage, Kilbrin failing to mount a threat on the turnover much to the disappointment of a large attendance.

This contest was in sharp contrast to three epic encounters between the sides last season, Kilbrin took the honours in two secondary competitions only for Dromtariffe to turn the tables in a championship semi-final.

On this occasion, Dromtariffe brought an impressive order and control to their game, possessing a far greater scoring threat, confirmed on three stylish goals in the first half.

Greasy conditions made for a scrappy opening, the teams shared the initial four points. However Dromtariffe livened up matters, central to their superiority was the powerful presence of Dan Dennehy, Michael O’Brien and Conor O’Callaghan in defence with Evan Murphy, Andrew Healy and Brandon Murphy creating a massive impression in attack.

Kilbrin failed to heed a warning after ‘keeper Eamon O’Riordan saved superbly from Kevin Cremin.

Five points without reply confirmed Dromtariffe’s growing impetus. Though Kilbrin answered with a Shane Crowley point, Dromtariffe answered in emphatic fashion, Healy’s effort blocked only for Brandon Murphy to net the rebound.

Now a rampant Dromtariffe expressed themselves with tasty hurling, Gavin O’Keeffe placed man of the match Evan Murphy to goal before the Murphys’ combined for Brandon to net his second to power Dromtariffe ahead 3-11 to 0-9 at the interval.

And Dromtariffe picked up where they left off on the changeover, Seán Howard and Healy adding points prior to Cremin soloing in along the end line to plant the sliotar past Kilbrin ‘keeper O’Riordan. Poor shooting blighted Kilbrin’s game all through the hour, 14 wides undermined a poor all round showing, Stephen O’Reilly adding three points to their half time tally.

Dromtariffe pushed on, Michael O’Callaghan laying the groundwork for Healy to add goal number five. Frustrations set in during the latter stages and in separate incidents, Kilbrin finished with 12 players and Dromtariffe lost a single player in the last action.

Dromtariffe captain Dan Dennehy collecting two trophies, the League and Duhallow Cup Finals doubled up, victory secures Dromtariffe a passage to a county league semi final and a meeting against Kilbree next weekend.
