Charleville completed their campaign in the Red FM Hurling League on a winning note as they saw off the challenge of Carrigaline, who have already been relegated, at the South Cork venue on Sunday morning.

This game was in the balance up to the midway point of the second half, before Charleville seized the initiative in the final quarter as they got three goals and they kept Carrigaline scoreless in this period.

Robert Carroll and Jack Callaghan got points from play for the North Cork side, while Eanna Desmond and Brian Kelleher replied with a pointed free each for Carrigaline.

The South Cork side, who were aided by the breeze in the opening half opened up a three-point gap, courtesy of points from play by Ciaran Kearney, Brian Kelleher and Kevin Kavanagh. Carroll replied with his second point for Charleville.

Brian Kelleher exchanged a point from play with a pointed free by Charleville’s Gavin Kelleher, before persistent fouling was proving to be costly for the South Cork side. Tim Hawe tagged on a point from play and Carroll converted two frees for Charleville.

Finn O’Connell responded with a point from play and Brian Kelleher slotted over his second pointed free for Carrigaline.

Callaghan got his second point from play for the North Cork side and Carroll converted a 65, while Ronan Kelleher and Kevin Kavanagh each replied with unanswered points for the Carrigdhoun side.

This left Carrigaline leading 0-10 to 0-9 at the break.

Brian Kelleher converted two frees early in the second half to give the South Cork side a three-point lead, but this was cancelled out by a point from play for Charleville by Zack Biggane.

This lead was extended to five points as Brian Kelleher set up Kearney for the game’s opening goal in the 37th minute.

Biggane and Carrigaline’s Rhys McCarthy traded points from play. Andrew Cagney then converted a free for Charleville and Brian Kelleher pointed two frees for the South Cork side.

Midway through the second half, Hawe set up Danny Flynn for Charleville’s first goal, which reduced the margin to three points.

Ger Gleeson tagged on two points from play and Cathal O’Carroll also got a point, to level matters at 1-15 each.

David Riordan and Conor Buckley each added further points, and these were followed by goals by Hawe and Riordan.
