Draghunting: Famous win for Griffin United's Sean T

Cork Draghunting: John O'Sullivan of Griffin United with Sean T winner of the Sean and Monica Walsh Memorial Senior Draghunt at the Fornaught.
A terrific turn of foot on the finish sealed a famous win for Sean T of Griffin United in the Sean and Monica Walsh Memorial Senior Draghunt at the Fornaught on Sunday.
It certainly was an early start for the hounds with a 9.30am slip as trainers as the Cork association decided due to the recent warm conditions that in the best interest of welfare a morning slip was a better option.
Reports from the various vantage points suggested the leading hounds set a strong pace from when the flag was dropped.
When the leading hounds came into view the winner had a slight lead and when the call went up, he showed all his class to win from the consistent Hannah Bawn trained by Pat O’Mahony of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers.
International hero Knockane Jack put in another good shift to snatch third ticket for trainers Ger and Jennifer Kenneally of Southern Carrigaline Harriers.
After going close to win the Senior international the connections of Sean T John and Sean O’Sullivan was naturally elated with their latest success.
“We went close to winning the Senior international but lost out to a better hound on the day and it was a great response from our hound in the manner he finished today,” John O’Sullivan said.
In the Senior Maiden draghunt there was joy for brothers Anthony and Denis Wall when their charge Don’t Panic Lad won his fourth race of the season.
By virtue of this win the winner will now be mixing it with the Senior hounds next weekend and on this occasion Don’t Panic Lad finished well to see off Jimmy Jack of Southern/Carrigaline harriers.
Mayfield trainer Mickey O’Brien was in England taking the International, but his hound Tadgh’s Lad ran his best race in weeks to fill third place.
After the draghunt the Anthony Wall spoke of his delight in getting out of the maiden grade.
“Don’t Panic Lad is a useful hound on his best day and hopefully he will move up a level to compete against the Senior hounds,” said Anthony Wall.
Griffin United trainers Ger and Noah McCarthy were thrilled when Knock’s Mac won his first puppy draghunt of the season crossing the tape ahead of the Shanakiel Harrier duo of Kempest and Lewis Lass.
Speaking after the draghunt Ger McCarthy was clearly over the moon.
“My son Noah simply loves the game and for him alone this is a very special win,” said Ger McCarthy.
In the Puppy maiden draghunt the Sheila Cummins Shanakiel harriers trained Tiger’s Belle took the honours crossing the tape ahead of clubmates Guinness Boy and The Dreamer.
