High Miss of Griffin United records her fifth consecutive draghunt success

Cork Draghunting: Julie and Lorraine Freyne of Northern Hunt with Born to Run, winner of the Shanakiel Harriers Puppy Draghunt at Newcestown.
There is no stopping the multi-talented High Miss of Griffin United as she recorded her fifth consecutive win in the Shanakiel harriers Senior draghunt at Newcestown on Sunday.
The one guarantee you get at this venue is good open running and the newly promoted Hannah Bawn did a lot of the early leading before eventually having to settle for fifth ticket.
When the hounds came into view the winner was leading the pack and just as she has done in recent weeks once the call went up there was only going to be one winner with High Miss crossing the tape three lengths to the good.
The Griffin United club are having a very good season and they also filled the runner up and third tickets with Knock’s Boy and Sean T.
After the draghunt the winning trainer Donal O’Donovan was gleaming with pride following his hound’s exemplary display.
“What can I say only that I am delighted in the manner High Miss is finishing her races and to be honest I don’t think any trainer gets fed up with winning,” Donal O’Donovan said.
The Senior maiden draghunt was a tighter finish with the Denis and Anthony Wall trained aptly named Don’t Panic Lad landing the spoils.

The Mayfield hound was all out to see off Jimmy Jack trained by Ger and Jennifer Kenneally in partnership with Ian Freyne of Southern Carrigaline Harriers.
The Damien Wade Clogheen trained Slievemish Lord snatched third ticket but this was a day to savour for the Wall brothers.
“Great to get back on the winners rostrum and its pleasing for our hound who gives his all in every race he competes in,” Denis Wall said.
The Puppy meet was hosted at the same venue and what an evening it proved for the Northern Hunt mother and daughter partnership of Lorraine and Julie Freyne when their charge Born to Run took the honours.
In good open terrain the winner showed the best turn of foot when coming home unchallenged to cross the tape ahead of Master T trained by Sean and John O’Sullivan of Griffin United.
Slievemish Duchess continued her recent rich vein of form when snatching third ticket for Clogheen trainer Damien Wade.
There was natural elation in the winner’s camp as Lorraine Freyne praised her hound.
“We are thrilled as we were running in the Puppy Maiden grade but decided to go up a level to the Senior pups and what a surprise to get to see him cross the tape in first place,” Lorraine said.
The host club have the majority of hounds in this grade and with them sidelined both slips were sparse but let’s take nothing away from the Puppy maiden winner.
Knock’s Mac trained by Ger and Noah McCarthy showed a good turn of foot to land the spoils crossing the tape ahead of Trina and Ken Long’s Blue Rose.
