UCC Demons pair Daniel O’Mahony and Patrick Robinson were rewarded for their excellent season when they picked up Domino’s Men’s Super League Coach of the Year and Domino’s Men’s Super League Player of the Year respectively at the 2025 Basketball Ireland Annual Awards, which took place at the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire on Saturday.

UCC Demons coach Danny O'Mahony was delighted to accept the award on behalf of his team and players.

"This is a great personal honour, but it would not happen to me only for the performances of my players over the course of the season. We had a great year, missed out on winning the National Cup, but bounced back in style to win the league title and gain revenge on Killester for that cup final loss.

"I was also thrilled to see Patrick Robinson pick up the player of the year award. His performances for us since he came in to join the team were excellent. He fitted right in with the lads, worked with them, understood what we needed from him and in the end, had the best season and experience of his career in Cork."

UCC Demons Kyle Hosford picked up the player of the year award in Patrick Robinson's honour.

Killester head coach Mark Grennell and player Samantha Haiby were presented their Domino’s Women’s Super League Coach and Player of the Year awards Other Cork winners of major awards on the day were Jason Thornton who picked up a Presidents’ Lifetime Achievement Award and Mark O'Donoghue who was chosen as table official of the year.

Meanwhile, former Ireland head coach Enda Byrt and former Ireland women’s captain Breda Dick have been formally inducted into the Basketball Ireland Hall of Fame.

Clare native Byrt won the 1994 FIBA Promotions Cup as Ireland head coach and coached extensively domestically, including leading Ennistymon’s Clare Admirals in the National League.

Byrt also made significant contributions in administration, notably rolling out extensive coaching and table official courses.

Speaking on his induction to the Hall of Fame, Byrt said: “What it really means to me is to be able to gather the people that brought me to the Hall of Fame, you don’t get here on your own.

"It’s the coming together of the people that have worked together for years and if I’m in the Hall of Fame, I’ll accept it on their behalf.” Breda Dick captained Ireland to the 1982 Four Nations Championship during her glittering 14-year playing career.

She won the inaugural women’s National League title in 1978/79 with home club Killester and also won multiple league titles and a National Cup with Naomh Mhuire, before moving to Sporting Belfast.

Dick has since excelled as a coach and administrator for her club Phoenix Rockets in Belfast.

Speaking at the Annual Awards, Breda Dick said: “It’s an honour to be inducted to the Basketball Ireland Hall of Fame. I am delighted to have my Killester family and my Phoenix basketball family from Belfast here to celebrate with me.

"It is a real privilege to be in the Hall of Fame, alongside the likes of Tony Burke and Kelvin Troy.” McEvoy’s Cavan Eagles finished the 2024/25 season unbeaten and that success saw John Stephens awarded the Domino’s Women’s Division One Coach of the Year, while Rahmena Henderson took the Player of the Year award.

Limerick Celtics also claimed the league and cup double this season, which saw Tony Hehir claiming the Domino’s Men’s Division One Coach of the Year, while Aryion Wiliams was handed the players prize.

In total there were 62 awards handed out, including Presidents’ Lifetime Achievement Awards to Deborah McArdle, Tom O’Malley and Jason Thornton.
