Killeagh put themselves in a strong position in the battle for promotion from Division 2 of the RedFM Hurling League as they overcame Na Piarsaigh on Saturday evening.
Going into the weekend, the East Cork side were level with divisional neighbours Erin’s Own and Newtownshandrum on six points, four behind leaders Midleton.
With Newtown losing to Ballymartle, Killeagh’s win in Fairhill leaves them within two of the summit prior to Midleton’s clash with Erin’s Own on Tuesday night.
Richie Long accounted for 2-8 of the Killeagh output, 2-2 of that from open play, while Andy Leahy notched 1-2 with Evan Lane also impressive. Keith Buckley, Kevin Moynihan and Daire Connery were Piarsaigh’s best.
Ballincollig are also still in the mix, a point behind Killeagh, after they recovered from the concession of an early goal to beat Fermoy by 1-23 to 1-17.
After playing with the breeze in the first half, the Collig went in 0-16 to 1-5 ahead, with Brian Keating, James Dwyer, David O'Leary and Tadhg O'Connell to the fore.

Cian O'Driscoll and Mark Oldham both finished with 0-3 up top, while midfielder Keating top-scored with 1-9, including three points from play and a penalty after O'Driscoll was hauled down. Pete Kelly and Theo Morgan sniped 0-2 apiece.
Jake Carr hit 0-9 for Fermoy, including eight frees. Pádraig de Róiste, who nailed three points after being switched to the attack, and Darragh O'Carroll were excellent in the second half for the visitors, while Shane Aherne was a great outlet on puck-outs.
Ballincollig were 11 points ahead after 47 minutes but Fermoy finished strongly.
Ballymartle had Ryan Deasy to thank for nine points, four from play, as they edged Newtown by 0-21 to 1-17. Luke O’Callaghan landed four points for the south-east outfit, with Cillian Lordon, Brian Corry and Shane Cummins each scoring two.
Bill Collins was Newtown’s top scorer with 1-3, followed by Mattie Ryan and Jamie Coughlan, who combined for seven points.

A 1-12 haul from Chris O’Leary helped Valley Rovers to keep up their recent good form, winning by 1-23 to 0-14 away to Éire Óg. Eoghan Crowley, Seán McEntee and Adam Kenneally were also among the scores while Eoin O’Shea was the Ovens’ side's main marksman.
In Division 3, the battle remains tight, with Courcey Rovers’ 1-21 to 1-19 win over Newcestown bringing them level with the Carbery side on nine points at the summit. That mark is also shared by Bride Rovers, who beat Lisgoold, with Ballinhassig on eight after their win over Russell Rovers. Blarney, who overcame Castlelyons, are on seven.
