Cork Draghunting: High Miss wins at Bottle Hill to maintain good form

High Miss continued with her rich vein of form when chalking up win number three on the belt in the Cork City and County Harriers Association Deceased Members Memorial Senior Draghunt at Bottle Hill on Sunday.
Trained by Donal O’Donovan of Griffin United the winner showed a terrific turn of foot to cross the tape ahead of the Gerry Murphy and Sheila Cummins-trained Tiger’s Boy of Shanakiel Harriers.
Fellow Griffin United hound Sean T is also having a good season and the father and son partnership of John and Sean O’Sullivan will be pleased with his third ticket.
The winner is certainly firing on all cylinders and Donal O’Donovan couldn’t hide his delight on a special day for his family.
“My grandfather was Gerry ‘Fox’ O’Donovan was a lifetime member of Fair Hill and it’s great that the association are remembering all the former deceased members of our sport,” said Donal.
In the Senior Maiden draghunt there was joy for Ger and Jennifer Kenneally when their charge Knockane Jack won his fourth draghunt of the season.
In a good finish the winner saw off clubmate and veteran Blue Lad who continues to show great zest for his Southern/Carrigaline trainers Trina and Ken Long.
Rodman from Pat O’Mahony’s Kerry Pike/Fair Hill Harriers kennel ran his usual consistent race to fill third ticket.
By virtue of winning this draghunt Knockane Jack is now promoted to the Senior ranks but trainer Ger Kenneally is looking forward to the challenge.
“When you win four in the Senior maiden grade you have to take on the big guns and hopefully Knockane Jack can continue with his improvement,” said Ger.
The Puppy and Puppy maiden draghunts were also staged on the same day and both races were competitive.
Shanakiel Harriers had five of the six tickets in the Puppy grade but they didn’t manage the most important one as the Damien Wade Clogheen trained Slievemish Duchess landed the spoils.
The winner is a good finisher, and she was value for her win crossing the tape ahead of the Shanakiel harriers duo of Kempes and Mexican Jess both trained by Gerry Murphy and Sheila Cummins.
The winning trainer was naturally delighted with his second win of the campaign.
“Luckily Slievemish Duchess is a good finisher as you always have a chance of winning when they have that talent,” Damien Wade said.
In the Puppy Maiden there was delight for Shanakiel harriers, trainer Mary Barrett when her charge won in style from Tiger’s Bell and Blue Rose.
The Cork City and County harriers association would like to thank the farming community at Bottle Hill and Fair Hill member Pat O’Mahony for his work in organizing the meeting.
Senior trainers please note the Mayfield Senior meeting will take place on Friday with a scheduled 7.30pm slip with the Puppy meet on Sunday at 11.30am.
