Cork City have announced that manager Tim Clancy has stepped aside after Friday night's loss to Derry City at Turner's Cross.
After 15 games this season, the Rebel Army are second from bottom of the Premier Division, three points ahead of Sligo Rovers, who have a match in hand, and eight points behind Galway United. They have won just twice, losing seven times and were held to six draws.
The concession of late goals has been an ongoing issue while the absence of marquee players Ruairí Keating, who is out for the season, Seani Maguire and Greg Bolger has had a serious impact on a squad that is inexperienced at the top level.
There are shades of the last time City powered to the First Division title only to be mired in a relegation battle the season after. They dropped back down in 2023 but fans hope there is enough time left to salvage this campaign.
Cork City's statement read:
'Tim Clancy has announced his decision to leave his position as manager of the Cork City FC Men’s Senior Team with immediate effect.
"The decision to leave is mine and mine alone. I am proud to have brought this team back to the League of Ireland Premier Division, and believe they have so much more to give.
Dermot Usher, owner of Cork City FC, added: "I spoke with Tim this evening, and while obviously disappointed, I fully respect his decision. On behalf of the club, I would like to thank him for his commitment over the past 18 months, and for everything he has done for the Rebel Army."
The recruitment process for a new manager is now underway.'
