Cork Draghunting: High Miss wins again to capture the Jimmy Carey Memorial Senior Draghunt

Martina and Don McGrath with Buccaneer of Northern Hunt winner of the Jimmy Carey Senior Maiden draghunt at Shanlyre. Also included Adam O'Sullivan of Northern Hunt.
High Miss made two wins on the belt when capturing the Jimmy Carey Memorial Senior Draghunt at Shanlyre on Sunday.
Trained by Donal O’Donovan the Griffin United hound showed a good turn of foot to cross the tape ahead of clubmates Knock’s Boy and Sean T.
The winning hound is a serious athlete when finding her best form and the winning trainer was naturally elated to pick up his second win in four days.
“It’s all about getting High Miss on song and the manner she is driving the hunt would please handler and long may it continue,” O’Donovan said.
In the Senior Maiden draghunt there was more joy for the husband- and wife Northern Hunt team of Don and Martina McGrath when their charge Buccaneer romped to his third win of the season.
By virtue of this win Buccaneer is now only one win away from joining the Senior ranks.
In a driving finish the winner saw off the consistent Hannah Bawn trained by Pat O’Mahony of Kerry Pike/Fair Hill harriers with the consistent Not Now Betty of Clogheen filling third ticket.

Martina McGrath has experienced the highs and lows of training with this hound, but she can have few complaints with the current form of Buccaneer.
“Delighted of course with another win and now we have one more to chalk up before we compete with the big guns in the Senior grade,” Martina said.
The Puppy meet was hosted at the same venue and the good form of the Barry O’Keeffe Shanakiel harriers kennel continued when he completed a 1.2 with Border Mystery crossing the tape ahead of Border Tom.
Credit to the organisers they provided good open running for the young hounds and Ger and Jennifer Kenneally of Southern/Carrigaline Harriers will be delighted with the performance of Casey Jack who filled third ticket.
It has been great start to the season for the winning trainer and he once again praised the resilience of his hounds.
“I think we all know how hard it is to get a win in any grade but to have a 1.2 is a dream come true and our partner Thomas Cochrane will be thrilled with the present form of our kennel,” O’Keeffe said.
In the Puppy maiden draghunt there was a first success of the season for the Ger and Noah McCarthy trained Knock’s Max who finished well to land the spoils.
Shanakiel Harriers came close to completing a double on the evening when the Finbarr O’Sullivan trained Mossgrove Dodger finished runner up.
Indeed on a good evening for Shanakiel harriers they also took third ticket with the Thomas and Chloe Murray trained The Dreamer.
