Cork Draghunting: Another big win for Griffin United's Sean T at Tower
Cork Draghunting: Adam O'Sullivan and Martina McGrath with Buccaneer of Northern Hunt winner of the Senior Maiden Draghunt at Tower.
Sean T of Griffin United made two wins on the belt when producing another superb finish to win the Kerry Pike/Fair Hill Harriers Senior Draghunt at Tower on Saturday.
Championship leader Wolfe Tone Lady of Northern Hunt and the winner came clear of the field but on the race to the tape Sean T showed his class to land the spoils.
Trainer of the runner-up Martin Wall also had the third-placed hound in Wolfe Tone Lass but this day was all about Sean T whose trainer Sean O’Sullivan praised his prize asset.
“We are delighted in the manner Sean T is running this season and its always nice to see a hound you reared from a young hound winning at the top level,” Sean O’Sullivan said.
In the Senior Maiden Draghunt a much closer finish was witnessed, and it was joy for the first time this season for Northern Hunt ace Buccaneer.
Trained by the dedicated husband and wife Northern Hunt team of Don and Martina McGrath the winner battled hard to see off the inform Knockane Jack trained by Ger and Jennifer Kenneally of Southern Carrigaline Harriers.
After a good start to the season the John O’Callaghan Northern Hunt kennel have gone into a little lull, but he will be pleased with the performance of Amazing who filled third ticket.
After the draghunt it was clear to see that winning trainer Martina McGrath couldn’t hide her delight.
“We have had to work hard with Buccaneer but when he comes to run he is capable of producing what he did here today and let’s hope we experience another few wins this season,” said Martina.
The Puppy and Puppy Maiden Draghunts were also hosted at the same venue and two good finishes were witnessed.
In the Puppy draghunt it was a good evening for Shanakiel Harriers as they completed a 1.2.3 in a tremendous finish.
The large attendance was treated to a good race to the tape with trainer Barry O’Keeffe of Shanakiel Harriers having a 1.2 when Border Tom saw off his kennelmate Border Mystery.
Trained in Carrigaline in partnership with Thomas Cochrane the Border kennel has certainly started well in this campaign.
Fellow clubmate Finbarr O’Sullivan will be pleased with Mossgrove Rodger who filled third ticket.
Speaking after the draghunt the winning trainer praised his hounds performance.
“The sport is very much a family affair for us and believe me when you have a few hounds all the help you get is very welcome by all concerned,” said Barry O’Keeffe.
The Ger McCarthy Griffin United trained Knocks Mac won the Puppy Maiden draghunt when crossing the tape ahead of The Dreamer of Shanakiel Harriers with The Model of Clogheen filling third.
