Cork Hospitals 1

CONGRATULATIONS to Rob Twomey and his backroom team for masterminding Swift’s first CBL premier league title following their remarkable rise from second division champions last season

Despite wrapping up the 71st title after the midweek win over HOC, Swift rounded off their campaign in style by going in front through Michael Peters in the 11th minute at Mayfield Community School.

Padraic McCarthy equalized for the Hospitals in the run in to half time only for James McCarthy and Peters to seal the win within ten minutes of the resumption of the second half.

Twomey himself made a cameo appearance when he replaced Peters for the final seventeen minutes.

There was plenty at stake for both teams in the midweek fixture between HOC and Swift at Garryduff.

Goals from John Corcoran and Dylan Keane in the first twenty minutes rocked the hosts who are still fighting the drop.

Shane Murphy and Francis O’Callaghan (penalty) gave the Mooney Cup finalists a lifeline only for ace marksman Corcoran to pop up with the winner five minutes from time to decide the destination of the title with a match to spare.

Cork Hospitals 4

Andy Sull’s Hair 2

Cork Hospitals guaranteed their top flight status by inflicting a 9th defeat on relegated ASH at MTU in midweek.

After Shaun Dunlea put the visitors one up in the 9th minute, Hospitals responded with four unanswered goals from David Mullins and Leon Lucey in the first 45 and Jamie O’Neill and Kelvin Lynch in the second.

Alan O’regan reduced the deficit with ten minutes remaining.

CBL First Division:

The Weigh Inn Dripsey 0

DHF Grangevale 1

Champions DHF Grangevale rounded their league campaign with a narrow win over the home side on Tuesday night.

In a scrappy affair in which the visitor’s keeper Jamie O’Sullivan had to be at his best to prevent the hosts from going in front on a couple of occasions.

The game’s only goal arrived in the 78th minute and was inspired by an incisive run by sub Luke Dennehy who got to the bye line before crossing for top scorer Corey Harris to side foot into an empty net.

League registrar Joe Murphy presented the Fred Hickey Memorial Trophy to victorious captain Dave Barrett while O’Sullivan had the honour of presenting team mate Aaron O’Sullivan with the player of the month award for March.

Suro Cars 0

Jake Hawkins’ goal on the stroke of half time set Harvey’s up to score twice more after the break courtesy of Kelvin Forde in the 47th minute and sub Tomás Sheehan in added time.

The Weigh Inn Dripsey 1

Longboats 0

The Weigh Inn Dripsey faced fancied Longboats at the Regional Park two nights after their final league match against DHF Grangevale at the same venue.

On a bumpy surface the host’s lively front three of Cormac Keane, Evan Lynch and Jordan Jones posed problems for the visitors throughout. Captain Ben O’Doherty crossed for Ivan Milicevic to score the game’s decisive goal in the 52nd minute.

EVcore 2

Marlboro Trust 2

(Marlboro won 4-3 on pens.)

Relegated Marlboro Trust took the game to their opponents to lead two-one through Luciano Da Conceicao Silva and Daniel Del Blanco by the 84th minute.

Paul Hickey had earlier opened the scoring for EVcore in the 64th minute.

Deep into injury-time Dylan Scott scored to take the tie to penalties but Marlboro prevailed to keep their hopes of finishing on a high.

DHF Grangevale 5

OBS 0

DHF Grangevale completed the semi-final pairings by coming out on top over OBS at Mayfield Park in the team’s second meeting in six days.

Once Aaron O’Sullivan struck with a glorious long range strike in the 24th minute, the hosts went on to score through a Ben Jenkins tap-in and a second half hat-trick of free-kicks from captain Dave Barrett to progress.

Frank Linehan First Division Cup – Semi-Final:

Martin Harvey Solicitors 5

The Weigh Inn Dripsey 1

After an indifferent start to the season, Harvey’s have turned their season around in recent weeks by first gaining promotion and qualifying for the final of the Frank Linehan Cup after an impressive win over The Weigh Inn.

The visitors were without key striker Ivan Milicevic but managed to hold their opponents at bay until the 41st minute when Kenneth St Ledger raced through to score.

St Ledger set up Gavin Ryan for a second in the 56th minute before Jamie Torpey halved the deficit.

After Jake Hawkins added a third from a penalty in the 78th minute, Dripsey’s brave resistance finally crumbled late on when Tomas Sheehan tucked away a second penalty and Aaron Cooney got in for a fifth.

Second Division Cup – Quarter-Final:

Cork County Council 0

DCT FC 2

Promoted Council and DCT met at the Regional Park to see who could have a last tilt at silverware.

A brace from DCT’s Dean O’Sullivan separated the newest and oldest teams in the league at the finish.
