Rathcormac hit three against Boher Celtic to win the Saxone Cup
The Rathcormac side that had a 3-1 victory over Boher Celtic, to lift the Saxone Cup at St Colman's Park on Sunday.
Rathcormac FC came out victorious in the Saxone Cup final after a 3-1 win over Boher Celtic in a highly entertaining affair at St Colman’s Park.
It was a terrific final between two League 2 sides that played some lovely football, but in the final scheme of things, the Morrison brothers struck as Richard claimed one while his brother David grabbed two.
However, the man of the match accolade went to Rathcormac’s midfielder Cian Hogan who was dominant and in so much control in midfield.
And what a start we were introduced to as we had three goals in the space of the first 13 minutes.

After a tentative start, a long kick-out from Ben Hogan reached David Morrisson, who hooked over the advancing Tom Hickey to fire Rathcormac in front after just two minutes.
And when Shane Cotter collected around 25 yards out, he controlled, but his goal-bound effort was blocked by Conor Cronin.
But, it was all square once again when Ian Dowling’s ball into space setup Darren Griffin to pounce and poke home Boher Celtic’s equaliser on six minutes.
However, Rathcormac got their noses in front once again when after Cian Hogan was fouled inside the box, Richard Morrisson fired home from his penalty, deep into the corner on 13 minutes.
Richard Morrisson came so close once again when his effort from a free kick flew narrowly beyond the upright.
Boher’s Niall Bucke side-stepped his marker, but from 20 yards out, he lifted his effort over.
And following neat build-up play shortly after that, Eoin McAuliffe saw his decent effort whistle over from outside the box.
After Tom Hickey collected from Richard Morrisson’s looping header, David Morrison exchanged passes with Ciaran Crowley before seeing Tom Hickey produce a magnificent save at the expense of a corner, from his effort.
From the ensuing corner, Dave Lardiner headed over while unattended.
A half chance then arrived for Rathcormac when Richard Morrisson found David Morrisson with his cross, but he headed over while inside the box.
When play shifted to the other end, Darren Giffin won good possession outside the box, but failed to keep his effort down.
Minutes later, David Morrisson showed blistering pace when he glided past his marker before producing a finish of pure quality into the corner to make it 3-1 to Rathcormac on 38.
The final action in an entertaining first half then came from Cian Hogan when he drilled narrowly past the upright.
For the opening ten minutes or so, following the resumption of the second period, both sides cancelled each other out until a cross from Cian Hogan saw Tadgh Lawton leap to head narrowly over.
Then, Richard Morrisson showed a clean pair of heels on his marker before setting off to force Tom Hickey to a forceful save from his stinging effort, before a turn and strike from his brother David went straight at Hickey.
Rathcormac were edging the contest at this stage with Cian Hogan controlling affairs in the centre and the man of the match came so close to getting his name on the score-sheet when his rasping low effort flashed narrowly wide.
What a terrific double save we saw next from Tom Hickey.

Cian Hogan unleashed a stinging effort that was blocked by the Boher keeper and when it broke for David Morrisson, his sharp reflexes showed once again when he brought off a second super save in quick succession.

Hickey was in action again when he collected at the second time of asking after saving once again from a David Morrisson’s crisply struck effort.
But, the game gradually petered out with Rathcormac managing their 3-1 lead comfortably to the end of a really entertaining affair.
Afterwards, the Cork AUL’s Dan O’Flynn presented the captain of Rathcormac, Richard Morrisson with the Saxone Cup, much to the delight of their supporters.
