Another wonderful day for Northern Hunt trainer John O’Callaghan when he completed a double at the Clogheen Senior and Senior Maiden draghunts at Glenville on Sunday.
O’Callaghan who also won the opening Senior draghunt of the season with Applause certainly has his hounds in good fettle and has good artillery in his kennel following the retirement of his prize asset Authority.
Credit to the host club Clogheen they put together a magnificent course and one could see the work their members put in to ensuring that all trainers departed the venue satisfied with what they experienced.
In the Senior draghunt the long call suited the winning trainer as his ace Authentic found the best turn of foot to deny kennelmate Ashcroft who ran a terrific race from start to finish.
The Northern Hunt club are presently firing on all cylinders and they also filled third and fifth tickets with Wolfe Tone Lady and Wolfe Tone Lass trained by the charismatic Martin Wall.
In the Senior Maiden draghunt the skill of finishing power was epitomized once again when O’Callaghan’s Adonis finished like a scolded cat to complete the elusive double.
Dave and Damien Kidney of Southern/Carrigaline Harriers will be pleased with the performance of Samantha’s Meg who filled second ticket with their other hound Samantha’s Dream in fourth.
Lorraine and Julie Freyne of Northern Hunt will be delighted with the performance of Viper Whizz who ran a cracking draghunt to fill third ticket.
After the meeting John O’Callaghan was naturally elated.
“A great day as to win one draghunt is hard enough but to get a second success is off the charts and well done to all involved with my kennel,” O’Callaghan said.
There was a noon slip for the Puppy meeting on Saturday and it proved be a great day Shanakiel Harriers trainer Thomas Murray when his charge Chancer landed the spoils, Credit to the host club they provided good open running for the young hounds who handled the terrain well from start to finish.
When the hounds came into view, they were a few in with a chance of landing the spoils but in the style of a decent hound the winner crossed the tape in style.
Kerry Pike/Fair Hill Harriers trainer James Greene has put a lot of work into his young hound Starman’s Son and he was duly rewarded with the runner up slot ahead of the Gerry Murphy trained Tiger’s Bell of Shanakiel Harriers.
