Boherbue withstand late Passage pressure to take the Cork PPS Senior D Hurling Championship title

BOHERBUE Comprehensive School were forced to dig deep to overcome a gritty St Peter’s Community School, Passage side in the Cork PPS Senior D Hurling Championship final played at Banteer 4G.
The Duhallow side didn’t have it their own way yet their slicker movement and solid defending in key departments proved the ultimate difference. St Peter’s added to a really enjoyable encounter, the Justin McCarthy guided side pushed hard during the latter stages to save the day only to find a tenacious Boherbue rearguard difficult to dislodge.
The tempo of this entertaining encounter was set from the opening stages with little separating the sides.
Current county minor Seán Coughlan looked extremely sharp for St Peter’s, obliging from both play and placed balls.
However, Boherbue warmed to their task, availing of the solid contributions of Paul O’Callaghan, Adam Carroll, Cian Brosnan and Cormac O’Shea. A turning moment surfaced midway through the opening half, Kiskeam footballer O’Callaghan delivered a long ball for full forward Philip McCarthy to blast home a goal.

Coughlan kept St Peter’s in the hunt to trail 1-9 to 0-10 at the interval.
It remained nip and tuck on the restart, St Peter’s points from Coughlan and Liam Quinn matched by a pair to Cian Brosnan for Boherbue.
The Passage boys kept up the pressure, Seán O’Regan denied by a terrific save from Boherbue ‘keeper Darragh Linehan, Coughlan converting the resultant ’65.
A setback for Passage, down to 14 players following a red card picked up by Tomás Hanlon, Boherbue utilizing their numerical advantage, points added by Jamie Kelly and McCarthy.
Behind 1-16 to 0-13, Passage mounted a rally, good work by Scott Moynihan placed former county Darragh McCarthy for a goal.
In the follow up attack, Boherbue might well had a goal only for St Peter’s netminder Zac O’Hanlon O’Brien to produce a fine save from Conrad Collins.
During the latter stages, St Peter’s pressed, Moynihan pointed though a combination of further missed chances for Passage allowed Boherbue demonstrate their class to ride out the storm to secure the silverware.
