Hamilton High, the sole Cork representatives this year’s Corn Uí Mhuirí semi-finals, were overpowered by a Mounthawk side that showed no mercy at a cold Mallow.
It was another display of power by the holders and Paddy Lane gave another exhibition of his scoring power, adding 1-11 to his already impressive 6-27 in the competition to date.
No team has really managed to land an early glove on all-conquering Mounthawk side and that was the case here in Mallow as well. The Kerry U20 pairing of Daniel Kirby and Ben Murphy lorded midfield, and two points off kick-out turnovers for Kirby saw Mounthawk lead by 0-4 to 0-0.
Bandon were struggling to make any impact against a strong Mounthawk defence, but could rue their luck as Seán Murphy plucked an Oisín McCarthy 45 out of the sky and unleashed a thunderbolt, only to be denied by a great Ruairí Kennedy save in the 11th minute.
Paddy Lane gathered from Ben Murphy to notch another score and punished a foul on Tomás Kennedy for another. 0-7 to 0-0.
In the 18th minute Oisín McCarthy finally opened Bandon’s account from a free. Mounthawk only responded by increasing the tempo, the irrepressible Lane adding another brace. Given their dominance, a goal looked inevitable, and it duly arrived in the 26th minute as Tomas slalomed through and finished neatly to the net. He added another point off the kick-out.
In truth, the game looked done and dusted. Fittingly, it was sharpshooter Paddy Lane who closed out the first half scoring to nudge his side into a virtually unassailable 1-13 to 0-1 lead.

The second half was played in driving sleet and the Hammies had the wind but it mattered little as Mounthawk showing no mercy with early points from Ben Murphy, Paddy Lane and Tomas Kennedy pushed the holders 18 clear. Bandon did add points from Jack Cullinane and Kevin Hannon but it was a bridge too far for the 2022 semi-finalists.
Mounthawk then added another goal from the penalty spot as Paddy Lane drilled his spot kick for a foul on Daniel Kirby low to net and the rest of the game saw a raft of substitutes being introduced by both sides.
