Cobh Ramblers have secured the signing of former Cork City star Barry Coffey as they prepare for an exciting 2025 season.

Barry brings an impressive pedigree, having spent his youth career at Celtic FC, where he developed through their ranks and gained valuable experience.

Coffey has also represented the Republic of Ireland at various underage levels, showcasing his talent on the international stage.

During a loan spell with Cliftonville FC in the Irish League, he displayed his versatility and attacking prowess, making an instant impact by scoring three goals in his first three appearances.

His performances earned rave reviews, with Cliftonville supporters praising his energy, creativity, and eye for goal.

His move to Cork City FC in 2021 saw him further develop into a key player.

In 2022, he was City’s top scorer with 14 league goals, playing a vital role in their successful First Division title campaign and promotion to the Premier Division.

In the 2024 season in which City again earned promotion from the First Division, Barry recorded 6 goals and 4 assists across 30 appearances, further highlighting his ability to make a difference in crucial moments.

Mick McDermott, Cobh Ramblers’ manager shared his enthusiasm about the new signing.

“Barry is a talented player that I know from my time in the Irish League; when the option to bring him to Cobh became a possibility, we acted immediately to bring him in.

"There was a lot of interest from other clubs, so we are happy that Barry chose Cobh for this next step in his career.”

Barry Coffey expressed his excitement about the move.

“I’m delighted to be here. It’s a big season ahead for the club, and I want to be part of that and help the team do well with goals and assists.

"We have a great, strong squad and an experienced manager and backroom team to drive us forward. I’m really looking forward to the season starting and hopefully making it one to remember.”

Cobh have also confirmed the signing of Jonas Häkkinen, again from Cork City.

The 25-year-old Finnish defender brings significant experience to the squad.

Jonas began his professional career with VPS in Finland, making 26 league appearances in 2019.

He then joined FC Haka, featuring in 16 league matches between 2020 and 2021.

In 2021, Jonas signed with Cork City in the League of Ireland First Division.

Over three seasons, he made 61 league appearances and scored four goals.

His time at Cork included standout performances in the First Division, where he played 44 matches and scored three goals, helping the club secure promotion to the Premier Division.

In the Premier Division, he added 17 more appearances in the 2023 season, demonstrating his reliability at the top level.

Expressing his enthusiasm about joining Cobh Ramblers, Jonas said: “Delighted to sign for Cobh. It’s a project that I’m very excited about and it’s an exciting time to be here.

"We are building a really strong squad and I’m looking forward to being part of the team. Really happy to be here and can’t wait to get started.” Cobh Ramblers Head Coach Mick McDermott is thrilled to have added another experienced player to his squad.

“I’m delighted to welcome Jonas to Cobh Ramblers. Jonas is a player with proven experience at this level.

"Beyond his individual qualities, Jonas’s arrival brings increased competition across the squad, which is vital for driving standards and pushing everyone to perform at their best, ensuring we have depth and resilience throughout the season.”
