As the Rebel Óg season across the county begins to wind down, thoughts are already turning to next year.

Recently a number of meetings were held at venues across Cork with club representatives to reflect on this season and suggest possible changes for 2025.

These will be discussed in the coming weeks and will be acted upon when and if possible.

One thing is certain within Rebel Óg is there will be changes within the committee as five officers are stepping away, as their terms of office come to an end. Between them, they have more than 40-50 years of service to underage GAA matters in Cork.

The five officers who are stepping down, at the completion of their terms of office, are: Michael O’Mahony, chairman; Eoghan O’Connor, treasurer; Martin O’Brien, assistant treasurer; Jim McEvoy, referee administrator, and Rory Noonan, PRO.

STEPPING UP

Mr O’Mahony will be replaced by Peter Watson at the upcoming convention, with all the others remaining in place until after the first county board meeting at the end of January 2025. Mr Watson will be part of the senior board as the representative for Rebel Óg from that day forward.

Amy Allen will take on the role of PRO in January.

Some of the other officers are moving on to new positions or continuing in other roles they currently hold.

Mr McEvoy is taking up the role of County Referee’s Administrator with the senior board and Mr O’Connor will continue in his Demographics Officer position as recommended by the County Management Committee.

On the recommendation of the County Management Committee, the following officers were approved for 2025: Children’s Officer, Donal McCarthy; Demographics Officer, Eoghan O’Connor; Planning and Training Officer, Susan O’Brien; Safety and Facilities Officer, Tony McAuliffe; Rebel Óg chairperson, Peter Watson; County Referee’s Administrator, Jim McEvoy; IT Officer, Terry Brady, and Fixture Analyst, Daniel Lane.

Mr Noonan is taking up a position as assistant secretary with the Seandún Division.

Meanwhile, the County Convention will take place on Tuesday, December 10, at 7pm, at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh and it will be preceded by the Rebels’ Bounty December Draw and the county championship draws for 2025 at 6pm.

A full list of motions was circulated to clubs and delegates in advance of the meeting and will be included in the convention booklet.

There is only one election and that is for the position of Irish and Cultural Officer, with John O’Mahony, Macroom, and Jerry Walsh, Ballydesmond, both going forward for election.
