Coláiste Choilm were well beaten in their opening game of the new TUS Dr Harty Cup season as they lost to Our Lady’s Secondary School, Templemore at Seán Treacy Park in Tipperary Town on Wednesday afternoon.
This is the Ballincollig-based school's second season in this competition and this was another learning curve for a team that has seen a lot of transformation since the last campaign. This Group 2 clash was one-sided, but certainly the endeavour and honesty from Coláiste Choilm couldn’t be faulted. David Bowen's team did improve for large spells of the second half, but the game was gone from them by that stage.
Coláiste Choilm, with six starters and one coming off the bench that played for Ballincollig in Monday’s Rebel Óg Premier 1 MFC final success, were competitive early on. A Pádraic O’Shea point from a free for Templemore was the first score after two minutes but a minute later David Bowen's team drew level. It was probably the score of the game. Shane Rue O’Sullivan and Danny Miskella were involved which resulted in Eoin Dwyer popping over a point.

It didn’t take long for Templemore to assert their dominance. They hit 1-6 without reply. The goal coming after nine minutes when Seán Stapleton flicked the ball to the net after an Eoin Boyle delivery, 1-7 to 0-1 after the first quarter.
Dwyer clipped over a long range free, but four white flags on the trot gave the Tipp side a 1-11 to 0-2 advantage with 10 minutes to the break. Cian Ahern, who worked tirelessly throughout, landed a great point as Coláiste Choilm at times showed what they could do.
The winners hit three of the last four points of the half with Dwyer scoring for Coláiste Choilm from a 65, 1-14 to 0-4 at half-time.
Coláiste Choilm landed the first score of the new half, 23 seconds in, when Tadhg Murphy pointed from an acute angle. A great score under pressure.
But a minute later, Templemore got their second goal when Philip O'Dwyer buried the ball into the net. Coláiste Choilm landed three of the next six points with Dwyer landing two frees and a Niall Buckley effort, getting the scores for their side, 2-17 to 0-8 after 42 minutes.
Tadhg Murphy got another nice point for Coláiste Choilm as they more than held their own in the third quarter. Templemore hit 1-1 then though with Chris Dunne getting the goal, 3-18 to 0-9 after 46 minutes.

Coláiste Choilm responded with 1-1 of their own. Cian O’Connor with a great finish from close range 13 minutes from time followed by a Dwyer effort. The Mid-Cork school would only score two points from here to the end, both coming from Dwyer, one which was a free, while at the same time, their opposition hit seven points to run out easy winners.
Colaiste Choilm will have to regroup as they will face Limerick side Castletroy College in the second group game in three weeks’ time on Wednesday, November 6 at 1.30pm.
