Castlehaven are through to the Premier 2 Minor Football Championship final after an impressive display at Bishopstown.

The West Cork side won the Division 1 championship last season and moving up a grade has paid off, as they will now face Donoughmore in the final in two weeks time.

They had some superb performances with Daniel Cleary and Niall O’Callaghan leading by example.

Killeagh had the first real chance but Conor Burns effort was well blocked by Donagh Courtney to deny him a goal. Cleary put the Haven in front from a free after three minutes later they raised a green flag.

Regaining possession in midfield a great pass from Eoin Maguire found his cousin James Maguire who blasted to the back of the net. But credit to Killeagh they worked the ball straight down the pitch with Sean Meade finding the back of the net, to make it 1-1 to 1-0 after five minutes.

Two points from Cleary increased the Haven’s lead, before the impressive Ben Geary raised Killeagh’s second white flag. From the restart they were unlucky not to get a second goal with the Haven’s keeper Adam Limrick saving superbly to deny Meade.

At the other end the crossbar denied James Maguire a second goal for the Haven. Eoin Maguire added a point and he was on target from a free as well, to make it 1-5 to 1-1 with 20 minutes played.

Again the crossbar denied a side a goal, this time Killeagh’s Jack Coleman finding the width of the bar denying him a green flag.

Andrew Brenner added a point for Killeagh, with Mark Crowley replying at the other end. Ben Walsh pulled a point back for Killeagh, with Cleary responding.

Walsh got the last score of the half to see the Haven leading by 1-7 to 1-4 at half-time.

Killeagh started the second half strongly and two frees from Barry Walsh put only a point between the sides, before Cleary got the Haven’s first point of the half.

Two frees from Eoin Maguire increased their lead and Mark Crowley was on target, to make it 1-11 to 16 after 50 minutes.

With five minutes to go Danny O’Donovan secured the Haven’s win when he got their second goal as they march on to the final against Donoughmore.
