Will there be quarter-finals or will two sides go straight into the semi-finals?

That’s the question that will be answered as two games take place in the final group games of the Premier 1 minor football championship tonight.

Of the four teams involved tonight three are still in with a chance of progressing, with Éire Óg unfortunately out of the running. As the table stands Douglas and Ballincollig are both on three points, with Bishopstown on two. The Ovens side have yet to get off the mark.

First into action will be Éire Óg at home to Ballincollig, throw-in 6.30pm and if the visitors win they will go through, no matter what happens in the other game.

A draw, or even a loss might do the Village pending on the result of the Bishopstown v Douglas tie.

A win for Douglas would see them advance, along with Ballincollig. But that will be easier said than done against the Town who are always difficult to beat.

They know they must win to stay in contention and with home advantage they will put it up to the defending champions.

Should the Town and Ballincollig win then the latter would top the group, so there is a lot at stake tonight in what should be two quality ties.

Tomorrow night St Finbarr’s are at home to Mallow and Valley Rovers take on Nemo Rangers at Innishannon.

This group is already sorted with the Barrs and Mallow through to the semi-finals.

All that has to be sorted is who will top the group and with home advantage the Barrs will be slight favourites to do so.

In the Premier 2 championship Glanmire are already into the semi-finals, with the three other sides (Killeagh, Bandon and Ibane Gaels), all with a chance of joining them, pending on results of their respective games.

In the other group Castlehaven are also through and again pending on results tomorrow night can be joined by any of the other teams.

If the Haven beat St Nicholas and Carrigaline beat Donoughmore then a playoff will be needed to decide who advances along with Castlehaven.
