After an impressive win in the opening round a win for Mallow tonight will see them with one foot in the semi-final of the Premier 1 MFC.

If they win and the Barrs get the better of Nemo then both sides will have qualified for the semi-finals with a game to spare.

A huge incentive for both teams, but on the flip side Valley Rovers and Nemo both know they need to win to stay in contention for the title.

Mallow are at home to Valleys and will be hoping to make that count, especially after their impressive away win over Nemo.

That was built on a solid team display, with goals from Ben O’Shea and Richard McAuliffe the difference in their 2-11 to 0-13 win.

With home advantage expect Mallow to come through and it may be enough to secure their path to the final.

They will be hoping the Barrs do them a favour by winning as the Togher side will be hoping Mallow do the same.

The Barrs, who were beaten in the final last year, were far too strong for Valleys in their opening tie and will take on their city rivals in confident form after that win.

It’s highly likely that the two home sides will win and that will secure their semi-final spots, with Valleys and Nemo heading for the Challenge Cup semis.

In the Premier 2 championship the winners of the Killeagh v Glanmire tie will see them secure a play-off place at the very least, but this group is likely to go to round three before it is decided.

In the other section wins for Castlehaven and St Nicholas will see them advance to the semis with a game to spare.
