Cork Draghunting: Slievemish Bounce secures first senior trophy

Cork Draghunting: Damien Wade of Clogheen Harriers with Slievemish Bounce winner of the Sean and Monica Walsh Memorial Draghunt at the Fornaught.
ANOTHER shock result, as the Damien Wade, Clogheen, trained Slievemish Bounce won his first senior draghunt and in doing so captured the Sean and Monica Walsh memorial at Fornaught on Sunday.
Credit to the competing hounds the heat of the day made it difficult for all concerned and when they came on the finish race favourite Blue Daisy looked to have the race at her mercy.
In fairness the winner showed an exceptional turn of pace to cross the tape four lengths ahead of Blue Daisy trained by Trina and Ken Long of Southern/Carrigaline Harriers.
Last week’s winner Wolfe Tone Lady of Northern Hunt is certainly giving her trainer Martin Wall renewed hope as she ran another cracking race to snatch third ticket.
There was naturally elation in the winners camp for trainer Damien Wade who put in some trojan work organising this draghunt.
“I am thrilled to have won this draghunt in memory of my great friends Seanie and Monica but I am a little shocked as I didn’t expect my hound to run such a terrific race,” he said.
In the Senior Maiden draghunt the Michael O’Brien Mayfield trained Tadgh’s Lad won a tremendous race to cross the tape ahead Knock’s Boy of Griffin United and Intensity of Shanakiel Harriers.
Riley, Caoimhe’s Boy and Mrs Briggs all ran credible races to fill the remaining tickets.
Another great day for the Kenneally family in the Puppy draghunt at Coppeen on Saturday when they secured a 1.2 with their charges Knockane Jack and Jimmy Jack.
In another fine good open running course the winner Knockane Jack had to show all his resilience to see off his kennelmate Jimmy Jack in a superb finish.
In recent weeks the Gary and Nicole Freyne kennel seem to have lost the winning streak they were on for many weeks but once again their consistent charge Not Now Al snatched third ticket.
Shanakiel Harriers ace Dingo had a first win of the season last week for stalwart trainer Davy O’Shea but on this occasion he had to be content with fourth ticket ahead of Ozzie T and Rodman.
Fellow winning trainer Ger Kenneally was absent as he was attending the English International but daughter Jennifer was clearly over the moon.
“It is always great to get a win in any grade but when you have a 1.2 with your hounds there is always a special feeling of delight, she said.
In the Puppy Maiden draghunt there was joy for another stalwart trainer in Hughie O’Callaghan when his charge Roy Court secured his second win of the campaign.
On this occasion he saw off the stern challenge of Not Now Betty of Clogheen and Misty from Shanakiel Harriers with Timmy Healy giving popular Mayfield trainer Marguerite Busteed a huge boost with his second consecutive ticket.
