Aaron Hill who beat Mark Selby to reach the third round of the Welsh Open
Former world snooker champion Mark Selby was knocked out in the second round of the Welsh Open by Cork's Aaron Hill who beat the four-time world champion 4-2 at Venue Cymru, Llandudno this afternoon.
After losing the first frame, Hill won three in a row including a tense fourth frame which included over 10 minutes of safety shots on the final green ball.
Selby pulled one back to make it 3-2 before the Irishman hit a break of 42 on the way to winning the game.
Hill faces China's Zhengyi Fan in the third round on Thursday.
"I was poor from start to finish," said Selby.
"I thought Aaron played well, and did what he had to do. I struggled from start to finish.
"The table was a bit heavy, but I was poor. Aaron picked me off when he got the chance."
"It was a relief to get over the line," commented Hill.
"He never gives up that fella. It was quite draining. Selby is the role model, he is a machine. He never gives in.
"I got the run, but Selby kept coming back at me. I'm delighted."
Hill, who is sponsored by Singleton's SuperValu Hollyhill will now take on Fan Zhengyi in the last 32 on Thursday.
