Marlboro Trust, with the evergreen Tom Frawley, third from left, front row, who drew 1-1 with Suro Cars in the CBL First Division at Mayfield Community School.

Marlboro Trust 1 Suro Cars 1

MARLBORO TRUST and Suro Cars played out a 1-1 draw in a tight encounter at Mayfield Community School in the CBL First Division league.

After drawing 2-2 earlier in the campaign, David Walsh put Trust one up in the first half, Paul Collins equalized early in the second 45.

The evergreen Tom Frawley was solid in the centre for Trust with Ciaran O’Regan, Brian Walsh and Conor Philpott excelling for the visitors.

OBS 0 Longboats 4

Promotion-chasing Longboats travelled to Crosshaven and came away with a resounding four-nil win courtesy of goals from Sean Nagle (3) and Shane Keane.

The victory lifts the Ballintemple side up to joint second in the table with their opponents.

The visitors appear to have banished their Achilles heel of recent seasons in drawing too many matches and are in pole position to push for promotion.

CBL Second Division:

NetApp 0 Frame Up FC 0

Having drawn twice in their two previous encounters in the league this season and sharing ten goals in the process, last Friday night’s meeting at Mayfield Park failed to produce a score.

Both teams had their chances but commanding defences prevailed on the night.

Frame Up centre-back Cathal Hegarty was outstanding all through for the visitors.

Swyft Energy 9 Curry House Hungry Tigers 1

Runaway leaders Swyfy Energy went one down inside six minutes to a Schadrack Bidaga opener for the Tigers.

However, the hosts turned the contest around to lead 4-1 at half-time before going on to add five more in the second 45.

Man-of-the-match Dale Dalton set up three and scored two himself while top scorer Ian Kent grabbed a hat-trick.

Further goals from Sam Coleman, Nathan Nolan and Danny Skillington completed the scoring for the home team who extended their lead at the top to ten points.

Croatia Fermoy 3 EVcore 2

Croatia lost 4-0 in the team’s first meeting in November. However, goals from Matej Herkov, Karlo Brisevac and Ivan Skalic turned the tie in their favour at Mayfield Park with Roy O’Brien and Wayne Buckley on target for EVcore.

CBL Premier Division:

Doolan’s Cow 4 Cheers FC 0

Champions Doolan’s Cow pushed up the leaders after a comfortable 4-0 win over struggling Cheers.

The irrepressible Jamie Murphy set up the first in the 10th minute by going on one of his trademark meandering before squaring for Aaron Hennessy to score.

After captain Craig Keegan was fouled on the edge of the area ten minutes later, Murphy blasted in the second from the resultant free.

Paul Koffi set Murphy up for his second of the contest five minutes before half-time leaving Hennessy to complete the scoring in the 55th minute.

Mooney Cup:

Jay Bazz Barbers 2 Cork Hospitals 0

Having comprehensively beaten their opponents in the league on the previous Sunday, Jay Bazz repeated the dose after scoring early and late in their cup tie at Mayfield Community School last Friday night.

Kyle McNamara opened the scoring in the ninth minute before captain Darren McGrath powered in a header to add a second in the final minute. Cork Hospitals tightened up considerably at the back and produced a much-improved performance but were undone by the two set-piece goals.

Brandon Downey, Sam Heffernan and Aaron Smith excelled for the premier division leaders with Kelvin Lynch and Conor O’Halloran the pick for the visitors.

EXPERIENCED

Marlboro Trust’s Tom Frawley is incredibly in his 25th season in the league which is a testament to his enduring ability and his supreme fitness which has kept him playing at the top level for the greater part of his almost a quarter of a century involvement with two clubs, MCM and Marlboro Trust.

He burst onto the scene in 1999/00 as an integral part of Ken O’Callaghan’s classy MCM midfield alongside Adrian Evans.

He made his debut on Sunday, August 29th in a 4-3 penalty shoot-out shield win over EMC Celtic before going onto score his first goal against RCI on October 10th in a high-scoring 9-5 win in a division two league game.

He scored the winner in the 3-2 Shandon Cup win over Centra at Pfizer Park later that season.

With MCM getting promotion his consistent performances won him the club’s first player-of-the-year award.

After spending a year in Australia he returned for the 2001/02 season and helped his club to promotion to the top flight where over the next five seasons MCM would never finish outside the top two, winning three titles in four seasons.

He captained the league and cup-winning team of 2003/04, the 18th game of that season being won with 48 points out of a possible 54.

By the end of 2004-'05 season he had played 157 games for his club and scored an impressive 58 goals from central midfield.

After joining Marlboro in 2011 he went on to win league, cup, shield and premier cup honours as well as gaining representative honours in the Oscar Traynor Trophy.
