THE Cork footballers have picked a league panel ahead of Sunday's Division 2 opener against Donegal.

The Rebels take on Jim McGuinness' side at 1.45pm in a tough test which will be live on TG4's YouTube channel and the team, set to be unveiled on Friday night, will come from the 36 footballers included in the squad.

Castlehaven duo Jack Cahalane and Cathal Maguire are among the newcomers who didn't feature in last year's championship, while goalkeeper Patrick Doyle, Darragh Cashman from Millstreet, Newcestown forward David Buckley and fit-again Kevin Flahive are also involved. Cahalane is the former Cork U20 captain and did make an appearance at senior level in the summer of 2022.

Valley Rovers' Jacob O'Driscoll is another interesting addition to a group that will again be captained by the Haven's Brian Hurley, with Seán Meehan serving as vice-captain.

Damien Gore was marked absent last season through injury but is back in the fold but Cathail O'Mahony isn't included as he recovers from the setback that saw him miss out on Mitchelstown's IAFC final loss to Aghabullogue.

John Cleary and his selectors also have a development squad as they bid to tap into the underage talent on Leeside.

The hurlers will be picking their squad before the first round of the league on Sunday week.
