KILMURRY are through to the semi-final of the Munster Junior football championship after a comprehensive win over Seán Treacy’s at Templetuohy.

From start to finish the Cork side were on top with Brian Hinchion and William Ronan outstanding in their defence. Midfielders Kyle Kelleher and James O’Mullane dominated and up front Sean Warren and Liam Wall, in particular, were a constant threat.

Having lost to the Barrs in the Cork final a few weeks ago Kilmurry were determined to show that was a blip and on this performance, it’s going to take a good side to stop their charge for Munster glory.

Their win was built on a solid defensive performance, that saw their opponents only score 1-2 from play, and then bursting forward at pace to cause Treacy’s all sorts of problems.

Kilmurry took the lead two minutes in when Wall pointed before Padraic O’Leary levelled it from the restart.

He put the Tipperary side in front before Kilmurry took over for the remainder of the half.

Warren had them back on level terms, before O’Mullane put them in front, 0-3 to 0-2, after six minutes.

With 12 minutes gone they raised the first green flag of the half to put them into a commanding lead. Treacy’s tried a quick kick out but Wall dispossessed Sean Ryan and with the keeper off his line had the simple task of tapping home.

Ronan and Warren added points to make it 1-5 to 0-2 after 15 minutes.

Further white flags from Kyle Kelleher and Warren extended their lead before Treacy’s were thrown a lifeline. With the referee playing advantage somehow Patrick Deegan managed to deceive the Kilmurry defence and keeper to make it 1-7 to 1-2 after 21 minutes.

But that only spurred Kilmurray on with Warren adding two more, one from a free to extend their lead.

Wall and Hinchion both pointed before half time as the Cork side led by 1-11 to 1-2 at the break.

Warren and O’Mullane increased their lead, before O’Leary scored from another free for Treacy’s.

With 41 minutes gone any slight chance of a Treacy’s fightback were dashed when a long ball in from Warren deceived their keeper to raise Kilmurry’s second green flag.

He added a free to make it 2-14 to 1-4, before Wall was denied a third goal, with Cathal Kennedy saving superbly.

Two late points from Joe McGinn rounded off the scoring for Kilmurry for a deserving win on the day.

They will now play Feenagh Kilmeedy from Limerick in the semi-final on Saturday, November 25 at 1.30pm.
